They have no sources or studies on the stock assessment that have been done in the last 20 fricking years .

I was at a public hearing in Biloxi probably five or six years ago where a man stood up he was on the subcommittee to do a new assessment of the red snapper stock and basically stated that he had withdraw from the committee because it was clear they had no intentions of doing any new studies

They straight up said we are doing this because y'all did that. WTF kind of shite is this?

Yep.

They are pissed structure out to 9 miles will get some recreational pressure for a few months a year. They will have to run a few extra miles to hit structure that they know will produce full bandit rigs instead of just half full ones.

These people think every single fish is theirs, and we're lucky they throw us a bone one weekend in the summer.

This is exactly the shite that President Trump said he was going to fix. It's time to see if he is serious. Please call and/or right or email your US senators and or your representative in Congress.

Stress there is no scientifically valid studies that support their contention that the red snapper population is in trouble and despite repeated request they have refused to do any new studies and are relying on very questionable data that is decades old. Junk science

Stress the Sirius economic consequences to boat owners fisherman bait shops etc. and the right to fish.

Ask them into immediately placed a hold on all federal funding to the Gulf Coast Marine fisheries counsel and any and all aspects of NOAA that deal with this issue. Also Prohibit any travel reimbursement or any federal funds going to any member of the Gulf Coast Marine counsel into this issue is resolved

Also ask them to please convene hearing on this issue not in Washington DC but in the mist in the golf Coast region on this topic New Orleans. So that everyone can attend

Lets do a little math..

So we get 3,004,075 lbs total. They say 81% is caught in state waters. So that leaves 570,775 lbs for 3 days. Say an average of an 10 lb snapper which is very generous with as many small ones out there. Roughly 57100 snapper to be caught. If a person limited out 3 days in a row, it would equate to 9600 anglers total every day. So you gonna tell me almost 10,000 people are gonna be fishing three days in a row on a Thurs-Sat?

Blow me gulf council

The RSA statement reads like a kid trying to talk his way out of being caught shoplifting. They want to "work together" and let "science and long-term thinking guide the decisions", because after years of gaming the system they've effectively ended recreational red snapper fishing in federal waters and it's starting to get noticed by even those who don't fish. Even the average joe or oblivious senator can see that a 3 day season is ridiculous, and it's about to bite them in the arse.

THIS!!!!!!

Also, find the list of restaurants who support this and boycott them. I'm pretty sure there was a well publicized list that came out not too long ago.

For those of us who fish offshore with friends only occasionally and don't live on the coast what can we realistically do to fight this? Besides never buying snapper in restaurants or fish markets and calling/writing/annoying the people with the power to fight this what else can be done? Hopefully more people start to take notice.

I would write to my rep Bradley Byrne but he is part of the problem. That dude can choke on a bag of dicks and burn to death.

My Costco only sells farm raised snapper from overseas. I've never seen red. I have seen red snapper at rouses.

Spreading the word to your family/friends to contact their representatives and ask that they fight for this. Hell you could write a form letter and then let them send it from their own accounts. Other than that I'm not sure if too much can be done.

Do what you can to get someone elected who will listen to the recreational side.

and who says we have to sit on the dock like sheep and listen?
LDWF says i can can have 2/person within given dates. all you need to do is look for a few "hidden rocks" w/in the 9 mile zone.
