Thanks everyone! Glad to hear that several people have experienced similar issues and that I'm not the only one cursed by this.
I'll try a few of the other brands mentioned and maybe move up to a 150 gr as well. Lots of good input here.

This is exactly what I found as well. One doe I killed had the expanded bullet poking halfway out of the off side skin, and another there were fragments stuck in the off side rib meat but no exit.

Had the same thing happen to me last year with 130gr corelokt. I plan on switching, but there is so much out there that I don't know what to switch to.

IMO, 130gr .270 loads should use tougher bullets because they're faster and lighter than the "standard" deer load (.30 caliber 150gr).
It'sa short light bullet that moves fast and will not penetrate well with bullets that expand aggressively. Traditional cup and core bullets tend to do well as long as the jacket is thick enough. Preimum stuff will do well also, but costs twice as much and often doesn't shoot any better.
All that said, I have had and seen great success with the standard federal blue box loads in 130 and 150gr on deer. I suggest trying them first.

Switch to Barnes TSX. You won't ever have to worry about a bullet not punching though a whitetail with a 270.

130gr nosler partitions over 60gr of h4831 is an amazing whitetail round.

Nosler Partition, Nosler Accubond and Barnes TSX are the bullets I would go with.
Personally I use the Barnes TSX. Solid copper bullet that expands and penetrates. It retains 99% of its weight. It wont break up. It will double its size and stay that way.
I shot an 8point in the neck and recovered the bullet lodged in the back of the neck bone. Go to Barnes website and if you look at the mushroomed bullet, thats exactly what mine looked like. A broadside shot and that bullet is going through.

Why not switch back to 7-08 or .243? All the ballistics of the 270 with less recoil. You may be flinching?
30-30 and .22s have taken more deer than any other.

The only way you killing a deer with a 22 is if you also have a Q-Beam with you.

I was shooting 150 core lokt in my .270, but switchrped to 130 gr accutips instead of having a woods gun in the 150 gr.270, and field gun in .300WM. The Hornady super Performance in accutips are a little hotter. I'm also shooting the 165 Super performance in .30-06 so we'll see how they do, too. I've only killed one deer at distance with the accutips but was 400 yds pass through but didn't hit a bone.

You right. It could also require apples and fish hooks.

I shoot Barnes out of my .270 and have had no issues with pass through and most that I have shot were DRT
Posted on 8/4/16 at 9:58 pm to BeauxNArreaux
I don't hunt with a rifle anymore, but any bullet issues are usually caused by not shooting an aught-six (spit) 150 grain bullet

I have hot load for my 270 topped with 130g Barnes X bullets with the molly coating, which unfortunately for me they dont make any more. That being said they have worked awesome and always passed through with good blood even on far shots.
On the other hand in my 30-30 it loves the core-lokts 150g. Last deer I shot was with it, popped him in the shoulder and the damn thing did a 90 and came out his chest, he didnt run far.

Use a Barnes 130gr-140gr TSX.
Barnes solid copper.
I switched to solid copper. Excellent bullet. 95 to 99 percent weight retention. You can shoot quatering shots and drive it through.

I'd drop the 270 for a 7-08
The .270 Winchester is practically a 7mm-06 so you're saying you'd swap from a 30-06 to a .308 because your 30-06 doesn't penetrate enough. Try premium bullets, I liked federal premiums with the sierra gamekings out of 7mm and .243 but not even certain if they're available anymore.

Sierra gamekings shouldn't be an option for a .270 for deer, especially in 130gr. They shoot extremely well, but they have thin jackets and are not bonded. They'll come apart more often than not on close shots with that load and will likely make OP's problem of no exits worse. They're a good choice for a rifle that's very picky and doesn't shoot very well, or for a long range magnum that is shooting big heavy bullets at moderate impact speed. Light and fast and Sierra Gameking don't jive well for killing deer at potentially close range.
I shot a 100 pound doe at about 175 yards with .30-06 168gr (Or maybe 150?) Sierra Gameking behind the shoulder last year. I had two exit holes and a bunch of jacket and crap around the exits. That's not a hot round by any means, especially at that range and it only hit ribs. I'm sure hitting a 200 pound buck square in the shoulders at 20 yards with a 130gr Gameking at 2900fps would result in little to no penetration.
The other school of thought is that violently expanding bullets drop deer faster which is typically true, but if the deer does run out out of sight you won't have much blood trail to follow. You probably get a good many bang-flops with the .243 and gamekings, but I doubt hitting the off side shoulder exits reliably. The doe I shot made it about 5 feet.
All of the Barnes comments are spot on. They're fantastic bullets that penetrate very well and hold together. I don't use them because I find they're too tough for deer in .30-06 loads. They might be just right for the .270 though, that's a combo I have no experience with.

All this talk is getting me pumped for deer season. My favorite time of the year is almost here - LSU football and the camp life.

Yea, this has me wanting to go shoot my rifles this weekend.
Will be packing the tikka T3 .30-06 with 180gr nosler partitions and the .30-30 with 170gr federal blue box for deer slaughter this year. I only got to shoot one deer with the partitions last year but I was very pleased. Looking forward to dirt rolling a buck with it this year.
