I have a Ruger vaquero single six (revolver) and a Browning Buckmark. I love them both and they are incredibly fun to shoot. I am a terrible shot with 99% of pistols that I shoot but can hit a dime at 20 yards with the Buckmark for some reason. The Ruger is fun but I’m a terrible shot at anything more than 15 or so feet.

I have a heritage revolver with .22lr and .22wmr cylinders. It stays in a leather holster that wanders around in my truck, including on the floor board, between the seats, and pretty much anywhere it can collect dust/debris. One time I pulled it out to shoot a possum in the driveway and a mcdonalds french fry fell out the holster. Still shot. I've been on a tractor for days with it on my hip only to have it completely covered in dust and leaves. Still shoots every time. It's in no way the quality of a ruger or browning, but it shoots just fine and was about $110

if you're interested in picking up a .22 for rodents, snakes, outdoor small animals, etc, with very sparing usage: would you favor a revolver type or semi type
I have a H&R Model 929, 9 shot revolver that I bought around 1978. Have had zero issues with it.
It’s perfect for what you mentioned.

Ruger Mark III with threaded barrel and a suppressor. Most fun backyard plinker hunting pistol.

Taurus TX22
S&W M&P 22 full size or compact (I have full size)
Or give the new FN502 a little while to work out any bugs. It looks amazing.
Can’t go wrong with a Buckmark, Ruger Mark whatever.
Revolver of any make will work. Revolver will make rat shot easier to deal with but I don’t care about killing snakes anyway (except rattlers).
I love my full-size M&P 22 (early model made by Walther)….but the capacity and reports of reliability of the Taurus TX22 would make me look at it first. It’s also very reasonably priced.
But if I had nothing right now, I would wait and keep an eye on the new FN 502. If reports continue to be as good as they are now, it’s what I would spend the money on (it won’t be cheap though).

I've got the H&R model 676, it's the 6 shot model but also came with a .22 magnum cylinder. It's great, super accurate. I gave a couple hundred bucks for it about a year ago, in the original box with all the manuals and instructions and original receipt. Somebody bought it new in 1981 at western auto for 104 bucks.
My brother bought one of the Heritage Rough Rider .22 models a few months back that also has 2 cylinders with it. It cost less than 200 bucks, and is a decent little gun for plinking.
I remember looking at those Heritage models a few years ago and I thought they were pretty crappy. They have definitely improved on them, and kept the price down.

Getting ready to teach my son and wife how to shoot pistols. Starting with .22's. Picked up a cheap Heritage .22MAG wheelgun from Academy for dirt. Also picked up a Walther P22 to use for teaching auto's. Both shoot pretty decent, the P22 runs great eating everything from Wildcats to Mini-Mags.
This should suffice to get things rolling then progress up through calibers.

I strapped on a Ruger Mark III this morning. I wear it every weekend while at the farm to take care of armadillos and groundhogs.

Figure out which ammo you will be using. Then read which guns like what ammo. 22lr has some of the most inconstancy of any round ever. Good powered rounds will cycle on any gun. Inconsistent rounds will only cycle on certain guns.
I would say buckmark or better option Ruger Ii or iii and if your using ammo that won't cycle I those guns then that's crap ammo bit will still shoot just have to manually chamber a round after every shot...not ideal but it still goes bang.
If you don't like that get a revolver Ruger single 10 round cylinder, s&w 617 a 10 round cylinder. Some others.
Cool thing abutthe revolvers to no is you can get 22mag cylinders so do your research and deside if you want something with lower capacity, that can shoot 2 calibers pretty quickly, or something that I don't have to worry about using two hands to cycle cheap ammo in an emergency or what ever, or do u want to be able to load 10+ rounds at a time in seconds with a mag change and not have to Google with a pocket full of bullets

. I have several revolvers and semi autos. Revolvers are stainless steel , a little heavier but are my go to for pest and such around the camp or in my boat. The semi autos are more fun for plinking . The 22 magnum cylinder is why I pack the revolver. I like the extra power it offers. Way better with rat shot.

I have this and a Walther P-22.
The heritage with the 22wmr cylinder is really cool, with some punch.
Walther P-22 suppressed is so fun to shoot.

Buckmark...can't go wrong. Steer clear of the sw victory

I also want one of the heritage revolver. Seems like a fun gun.
What kind of suppressor you have for the P-22? I just picked one up and would not mind getting a suppressor. I also have the glock .22 .

If you get a revolver be sure it’s a double action and not a single.
