Nothing is going to germinate at my place until we get some rain, so I am not worried about it. I don't see any measurable rain in the 10 day forecast.

I went to our lease in Summit. I’ve never seen it so dry. Large pond has about 6-8ft of bank exposed.

We haven’t had any rain in about two months. My pond in the back yard I almost completely dry. It’s close to 2 acres when full.

I was tempted to plant this weekend at our 2 spots in north La. with a 50-60% chance of rain Sunday evening and into Monday.

But gonna hold off. I plan on getting everything tilled up and wait a few weeks.

Tilled ours last wknd, told my buddy to not let me jump the gun and plant on the first rain.
Figured as dry as it is one rain will be just enough to make seeds germinate then die cus not enough moisture.
Everyone else worried about (lsu, stockmarket, inflation) and I’m sitting around stressing about soil moisture to grow some fancy weeds for some pine tree goats.

It will be at least 2nd weekend in october before i plant, pending forecast. Last yr it was 2nd week of nov because of no rain. With that said, i will plant the following

Wheat
Bob oats
Winter peas
Clover
Purple top turnips

Usually plant this minus the winter peas (frost just kills it before the deer really seem to get after it) but plus rape.

I usually plant the first weekend in October but I can't see that happening this year. Might even have to wait until primitive firearm season.

The mix that I buy has rape in it as well.

But also cereal rye.

The deer hammer the rape. Love it or at least they did last year.

People at work think I always have weather tabs up on my computer because Im worried about the low MS river levels and it affecting our shipments. Little do they know it’s all for food plots.

The other five plots will be terminated the same time and we will drill (Tar River Saya 507)
Gulf Rye
Winter Wheat
Buck Oats
Ladino Clover
8-24-24 fertilizer

Order placed and picking up seed this week. I'd advise picking up your seed sooner than later because there is always a rush in October in South MS at least. Especially with Ladino White Clover and Buck Oats

I'm gonna disk everything up this weekend and wait until it looks like rain is going to get somewhat consistent. May not plant until end of October. When I do, gonna be sacks of wheat/oats with some clover thrown in. Fertilize with whatever I can afford, then wait until around Dec and kill big bucks.

Hopefully it softens the ground a little. Looks like a front may be coming in 2 weeks! Everyone is about to start getting planting.

It rained pretty good last night. We need a few more of those in the next month. I had puddles in my driveway for the first time in months. I’ve clipped everything and my 13 year old will disk in the next week or so. We will plant around the 3rd week of October.
