I’m considering going to a 20 ga pump. Kirk McCullough uses an older 870 20 ga only, and that man has killed more green heads than most on this board combined. He says if you can shoot you can shoot, doesn’t matter 20 or 12.

I love the Beretta A400 but they’re too pricey for a secondary gun.
buy it...make it your primary gun.
Personally I prefer to shoot ducks w 20.

Absolutely true. I know a guy who doesn't even own a 12ga. Does EVERYTHING with a 20 or 28ga and I've never out-shot him on any kind of hunt.
Shoot them in the face and it doesn't matter if you have a 10ga or a 28ga.

Check out the A300 Ultima. I have it in 12ga and it’s great - some of the bells and whistles of the A400, but half the price.

Unpopular opinion but I bought a Mossberg SA-20 for the exact same reasons and now it’s all I shoot on anything but a goose hunt. It’s light, fit me well and is softer shooting than a Montefeltro or M2. If you can get past the Mossberg name it’s actually a very nice, well made shotgun.

A vintage Remington 1100 in pretty good shape is a great shotgun for what you want.
You can shoot it all day without fatigue or shoulder soreness.
I have one from the 1960's and it is a killer of clays and birds inside 25-30 yards with IC choke barrel.
I haven't looked, but I would think you could find a nice one for under a grand. Just stay away from anything built after the mid/late 80's. Not sure of the exact year, but Remington went to shite in that time frame.

I have a Franchi in 12ga, a Benelli in 20ga and have had a Beretta. All of them are great guns. I hunt dove with a Remington 1100. It is very soft shooting, softer than the A400.

How do you like the SBE3 20? I just bought one (impulse buy), have not shot it yet.

the m2 in 20 gauge is a war horse for sure

I've got a M2 20 and it shoots like a dream. Everything about it fits me well. I also have a Beretta 390 20g. It is bulky compared to the M2, but it has less recoil and I might prefer it over the Benelli. Both a great.
