Have they been adopted by any police forces or militaries?

M3020 Stoeger. 13 year olds wants something cool and new age. After showing my kids group of friends, NONE of them wanted a Franchii. Too old an pa pa like for them. The one I bought is cerakoted and dipped in bottom lands. All his buddies are super jelly. Mission accomplished for $479

I have the same exact gun remington 1187. It is made out of cheap metal or something but it gets too hot and doesn't eject the shells. I have taken it to 2 gunsmiths, worked on it myself after that didn't work, and tried multiple types shells. Never fails I end up with a single shot during my dove hunts after a couple of rounds.

Don't get me wrong I love the way it shoots, but I have had issues pretty much since i've owned it.

My dad has a 50 year old winchester 12 gauge, and it has never once failed.

Just my .02, if your son has any size to him, why not get a 12 gauge? He won't be 13 forever and will have a gun he can use for life.

I have 2 brothers and it was a tradition in our family that you got a 12 gauge Wingmaster for your 11th birthday and had to shoot a 3" buckshot to show that you could handle the gun.

There are three 12 gauges in the house already. Dove and squirrel are the only things this will be used for. I will end up using it some and we have no 20 gauge right now. If he uses this and enjoys hunting enough, I'll buy him a 12 later or give him one of mine.

Bought my son an Franchi Affinity 3-5 years ago.

It's been a really great gun for him.

As to the comment about not being able to use a 20 for life, that's just wrong.

My brother used a Wingmaster 20 his entire life. I'm actually considering getting me a 20 or a 28 gauge.

Why doesn't that come in 20?

Idk. Beretta probably figured that if they created a gas operated 12 gauge with a 13" adjustable LOP and 1/8" adjustable comb that they could hit a large array of the sub $1k market. The gun can basically morph within minutes from a very short ladies/teen light recoil sport shooter up to a 3" goose buster.

Main difference(besides gauge) with this gun compared to most 20s is that its about 1.5-2lbs heavier.

I have been looking for my 13 year old as well. The SX4 Compact 12 fit him best. The black composite is around $700. It also comes with a 26" barrel. I am planning to get it on Ms tax free weekend.
The Franchi that we held was way too short, and my kid is small for his age.

felt recoil isnt much worse than a 12 due to weight of the gun and they make low-power loads for 12s

cut out the bullshite and just buy the kid a 12 and tell him to man up.

13 years old is old enough and youll be buying another shotgun in a couple years otherwise

Gotcha. We were kinda poor so my dad told us he would only buy us 1 gun in our lives.

My question is, why can’t you use a 20 gauge for life? I’m not using a 12 on squirrels and definitely not using a 12 on rabbits. I don’t upland bird hunt, but I know that easily done with a 20. So waterfowl is the only thing left. My brother uses a 20 for wood ducks and kills some, but we aren’t real duck hunters, it’s just something we play with a little.

You can. An arguably better. I used to be in the you got to have a .12 gauge camp. Then I wised up. I’ll never buy another .12 gauge (I have several). From here on out it will be .20, .28 and .410’s.

I’ll only use a .12 for duck hunting.
