What was out of hand?

I wish some ol baw in the know had the balls to say what really caused this.

WB, the guy couldn't get these folks to shoot the number of deer needed. There were lots of issues at WQ. He knew what was coming.

I see it on both places I manage in Franklin Parish. Each property has around 100 hunter efforts per year. Neither property is on DMAP, so I've set the number of does to be shot at 30. Both properties are less than 1,000 acres, but surrounded by several thousand acres of decent deer habitat. I encourage the owners to allow guests to come in and bring family members to shoot does. This season one property killed 11 does and the other 8.

Are the hunts fun? You bet, you can easily see 20 or more deer every sit, but there's no way the habitat can support those numbers. Forget about CWD, it simply comes down to whether we can put enough groceries on the ground to support the herd.

Without shooting a lot of deer, we can't.

There were other issues. When he first took the job years ago, he could hunt during the rut and was always welcome to take one of his family members. Over time they took the rut hunt away from him and eventually took the ability to take his children hunting. Which was exactly the opposite of what they needed to be doing.

Thanks for the info. Folks like seeing deer (me included). It’s hard for me to blast a doe with a rifle.

There are always people looking to kill some deer.

What is strange is that they didn’t force them to wipe out the herd at WQ. It is clearly ground zero from bringing in deer. Not they are spreading.

I really don’t think it matters though, deer will deer and disease with do natural things across herds

Money talks, especially in this state. Hell one man dictates the whole deer season in MS.

So is that why it’s a CWD hotspot? I have a hard time believing someone would bring in deer when they don’t have a high fence and the land floods every year.

You under estimate the stupidity/ego of some people.

Hell, I know of two booners, one over 200" shot in St. Tammany. Those deer were brought in. They have done a good job of keeping it under wraps.

I got a message from MDWFP stating first case in Claiborne County two days ago as well. It's moving as unfortunately expected.

Received word from our DMAP biologist that all supplemental feeding in Claiborne County will be banned, and the ban will likely last 3-5 years.

As the amenities improved, they wanted less and less folks seeing it. More privatized I’m sure. Hard to have doe weekends when you are a stuck up bunch of assholes.

I read the ruling yesterday and it was brought up about a state wide feed ban. They said they didn't have enough information to decide but are collecting data for a vote at a later time.

You'd be amazed at what people will do for horns.

Statewide ban would be interesting

Going to put the hurt on these small feed store operations and businesses that exist for deer feed mix.

Wasn’t long ago it was banned in MS though. Need to ban dogs while they are at it. Banning the corn hunts will surely bring the dog hunters back out in mass

So, the little piece of paradise where I get to hunt some just confirmed a bunch of cases. There's talk of reducing the heard by 50%.

State is talking 50% heard deduction or the clubs are discussing it?

A lot of $ tied up, share clubs have to be sweating the impacts.

If it is the state and they are talking that drastic of measures. I would think they would do it across the whole island and the adjoining one maybe.

This crap has worked its way from the river to eastern Richland Parish.

My family and hunting buddies will not be eating any deer meat for a while.
