Deer/pig hunt
Jarreau, LA
43 degrees, mostly cloudy with 6 mph east wind
80’s Ruger 77 in 7 mag, red field illuminator scope with 139 gr interlocks. Deer killing machine back in its heyday.

Sitting on hay bales watching the tree line, found two fresh scrapes along it yesterday. No mercy this morning, I need backstraps! Good luck to all.

Slight east/no wind

Saw my target buck again last Friday, but he didn’t come in range. He was here yesterday morning. Hunted yesterday afternoon and just saw a younger buck. Pushed another younger buck walking in this morning and just had a yearling come through.

The deer around me have gotten much more sporadic in their movements over the last week. I think they’re starting to rut. I had some young bucks running does through the woods and grunting behind my house over the last few nights. It throws me off that I’ve not seen much scraping activity, but a little here and there. Beautiful morning so hoping for the best.

On the edge of some cutover. The hogs are moving already. Might shoot one later in the day.
I loaded up some 200gr hammer hunters for my 35. Curious to see what they’re going to do to an animal.

Just had what’s probably my biggest buck to date come in behind a doe. Shot him and the doe stood by so I shot her too. Normally I wouldn’t shoot a hot doe, but this is my last hunt here this season. So I figured why not.

Speaking from experience, before you leave the house be sure to take the snacks out of the plastic packaging and into something quieter than a dryer full of coins and shoes.

If you’re taking a 3yo the snack wrapper isn’t gonna be the noise concern

Absolutely the way to go. Poptart and little debbie wrappers never sounded so loud.

Also, 72 degrees, coffee, office chair, only one in the house awake. Tried to take off today to hunt but been on computer at home since before daylight. Trying to get in the woods this evening to shoot a 7 point.

Not that I'm hunting a particular 7 point, I have just killed about 100 7 points around Christmas.

I’d be thrilled with a 7 point right about now. Deer desert where I’m sitting.

I plan on making it to the box blind around 3:45-4:00 p.m. and having fruit loops and goldfish in bags. I plan on seeing only squirrels. 4 wheeler ride in and out. It's all good though

I just absolutely nailed a pretty solid doe. She’s on the ground 25 yards from impact. I’m gonna sit til 10:30 and see if target buck comes through.

I was a little skeptical about shooting a doe so close to the rut but I’ve passed on a lot of deer this year because I’ve been hunting my target deer so hard and I really need another deer in my freezer. Their movement has also gotten super sporadic this week. So I like it. I made a pretty much perfect shot and she ran towards the road, so minimal impact on my spot. Feel like it went as well as it could’ve gone. She also blew 5 times on her way in so, if you blow, you go.

My confidence has been shot a little bit since the first interaction with target buck and him not giving me a good shot so it also just feels good to smoke one. 3/3 on deer with the new bow this year.
