Find a used Encore. Can then use for another gun if needed.

Look deeper into the specs. Some of the actions can't take as much charge as others. Can't remember if it was a CVA or Tranditions I looked at that could only take ~100 grains v. 150+ grains v. the other options. Just make sure the action can deliver as much smoke as you want.

I can't use the whelen. This WMA specifies that it has to be a muzzleloader. I have a .444 i could use if that were the case. Sigh...i wish.

I did not realize that was a thing anymore.

A T/C Impact is going to be hard to beat for a budget muzzleloader.

I have an older TC Omega and it shoots great. Mine is Stainless/Syn and in .45. I shoot 120gr of powder behind a Knight Red Hot in 175 with no complaints. I've made several kills between 175 and 200 yds with no problems.

New SiCo maxim 50. Too bad its $999. But I think CVA is good. I hear a ton of great things about Knight Muzzleloaders.

Find you a gently-used T/C Encore. Keep in mind you can get other barrels for centerfire cartridges. Can get you a .35 whelen barrel for other primitive seasons if you want.
