Rewatching that steeple.
A) Rooks ran out of his mind and nothing im about to say takes away from that. Great performance
B) my coach brain wonders if he could have pulled the win out if he had truly committed to that move he made with 400 to go. It feels like he made it and was just like “oh shite I’m in the lead” and kept looking around versus just committing to it and going. I always tell my athletes if you’re going to make a big move like that you have to commit all the way. Phenomenal race either way but still…

This is probably the first time I've really followed the T&F events at the Olympics and I am hooked. Insane drama.
Seeing that type of speed in person is kind of unreal.
The greatest track meets I’ve been to have been in Fayetteville at the Tyson Invitational. You’ll have pro’s and collegiate runners on what is dubbed the fastest track in the world.
Think of the one or two fastest people you’ve ever seen in person…but then there are 8 of them in every race…then you watch distance runners who run lap after lap, but are going to speed of a normal persons sprint.
It’s pretty unreal to be honest.

He had the best PB in the group, won the 22 worlds, and was incredible in college IIRC. For whatever reason, he’s just been very bad in the Olympics.

the back of his head hit the track pretty hard.. likely why they have the collar and spine board out there

Highly recommend going to a Diamond League in Europe if you can.
We went to the Oslo Diamond League this year and it was an absolute blast. Top sports experience.

French media reporting that Girma has "regained consciousness" after his fall.
Also, Quincy Hall said in his post race interview "I have a pretty big engine. I used to run cross country." Pedro, you're about to have the 400m guys showing up to XC practices

Trying to explain to my wife the lane assignments, but it’s been way too long. I recall the preferences for the 400M and longer was lane 3-5, but other than the tighter turns in 1-2 and longer turns in 6-8 (or 9) I feel like there was more to it. Anyone know what that may be?
Also how do they measure the stagger? From inside the of the lane, or the middle?

There is no way they put Lyles on the qualifying team for tomorrow in 4x1 right?
It has to be Coleman leadoff, Bednarik, King, Kerley
Then the final is Lyles as the 2nd leg since it is the furthest of the legs?

Laned events it’s 4-5-3-6-2-7-1-8
Harder to run on the outside when you can’t see your competition
Measured from the inside (shortest distance)
Fun fact: if there’s a rail on the track (on the line for the inside of lane 1) the stagger for 1 is a little off because of how it displaces the lane ever so slightly.

I guess Bednarik would be the anchor, as Kerley is this generation. Gatlin runs 2nd leg no matter what. I just remembered at the WC, Kerley was always 2nd leg.

I apologize for the Bobby Ray-style posts...
But I wonder when USAT&F will ever develop a team and just run them through all the big meets ie Penn, Diamond, etc to prep for Olympic and WC

I vaguely recall that because we had a track we would routinely need to run at that had the rail (West Bank track under the bridge?)

What was going on with Lyles? I saw
He was wearing a mask in the warmups and kind of looked like he was sick
