Yeah, not necessary. The frick up was clear to see. But seriously, WTH is going on with the men in this event? HS teams all over are able to pull this off.

Baton passes have always been a nemesis of the US relay "teams" a lot of the issue is they are not really a relay team and don't even know who will run the relays in the heats and finals until very close to the competition. We often win on speed advantage alone despite poor technique.

We all know that’s what happened. We all know Coleman and Kyree King are the ones who are good at passing the baton.
And it’s oretty likely that Kerley was going to run the second slot with a healthy Lyles. I don’t know why the tinkered with Coleman and Kerley going 1-2.
Kenny is trivially slower than Kerley but who cares? King has the smoothest passes. Coleman knows how to set up Kerley. There’s not much else to think about.

Carl Lewis basically declared "open season" when he went scorched earth on the USATF. They deserve 95% of the blame. Thankfully for them, I think the overall T&F medal count will give them some cover. Volleyball and to a lesser extent Swimming need changes before the media turns to USATF. I hope LA28 is enough to force them to makes improvements to all 3 between now and then.

I nominate Carl Lewis to coach the men’s Olympic relay teams. Someone needs to chew some arse and instill some disciplined technique.
