Let me edit that to "knowledgeable people." I think I gave myself too much credit here. There are people on this board who know one hell of a lot more about it than I do
Don't sell yourself short Judge. You've been a knowledgeable contributor to the discussions.

Just a thought. If BP is able to keep the oil at bay by pumping in mud then why stop even if it won't form a permanent seal? Keep sending the mud down until the relief wells are complete. This is what I suspect will happen assuming there is enough mud available. Can anyone with industry knowledge elaborate on the availability of drilling fluids?

With new drilling shut down, they should have a bunch of companies with extra.

Now I know I'm really reaching but maybe they could use that 100 ton containment dome that's sitting on the bottom the ocean to reclaim the mud. Recirculate it over and over.

Run out of mud...then switch to bubble gum.
It plugged a hole in my aluminum boat once.

This will be my last post of the day. I hope you will all take a moment to read it. It won't take long.
I want to address all those frustrated with the pace of this thing. I may have a different perspective on what can actually be done.
My wife has an incurable disease. We have been to or investigated every doctor and clinic in the world that might provide treatment. None of them can stop it, or even slow it down much. Sometime in the future -- it could be 6 months, it could be 5 years -- she will lose the ability to breathe and will die. Only God can change that, not anything man can do. That has caused me to really think about things. I offer this.
Life is not a drive through window. We can't just get what we want when we want it, particularly when it comes to difficult things. This is not God's food court in the mall. There are things we cannot do quickly, and there are things that we cannot do at all. As we watch this, let's let it humble us some, as Americans, as citizens of the world, and as children of God.
As for my wife and I, don't pity us. We live vibrantly, treating every day, every hour as a gift. But we have also learned to live humbly.
I pray this thing is killed today. I will continue to read the comments. Thanks for reading this. Have a great day.

I am sorry to hear about your wife and I pray she has success in treating it and if anything that she is happy.
far too many people expect this to be as easy as turning off a hose and that just isnt the case
EVERYONE wants this thing shut it asap and they're working their asses off

I don't have time to read everything. Please let me clarify some things.
The Media is putting out a lot of false information.
1. There was plenty of mud on location. They never ran out.
2. No one from BP has claimed the flow was stopped.
3. Stopping the flow of mud at some point and restarting at an undetermined time was part of the original plan.
4. Approval from the Coast Guard was required prior to restarting pumping of the mud because of a deviation in the original plan. The deviation was to add material to help plug the leak in the riser.
5. People from the inside are still optimistic about the success of the top kill. They are frustrated with what is being reported because the feds are way more involved with information releases than the feds want to admit.

Stepped away for a few minutes and now I see nothing but a cloud on the live feed. What happened?
ETA: looks like it is surfacing

This makes my brain hurt just thinking about it.

Judge, I'm reluctant to make judgements on people based on what I read on the Internet, but in your case I'll make an exception.
Your wife has a damn good man standing by her side as she battles her disease.
