Clearly a chunk of hydril. The flow from the front part of that leak has been completely shut down.

Geaux Junk!!

Now if they stop these leaks, will the mud just escape from the open end of the riser pipe? Or will the insertion tube block that flow to some degree?

I think they are hoping the junk will lodge where the riser is kinked and slow the flow through the end of the pipe.

I was curious about that. If the riser is open at the top end, how can they build up any pressure?

That's what I thought. But that leaves me confused. Are they pumping junk? Are they pumping some sort of LCM?

The riser is kinked, like kinking a water hose I think.

If the junk builds up in the kink then the mud cannot flow through it as easily and will build pressure back down the hole.

I hear the formation may be leaking on the backside of the casing where a riser plug failed, they better have a lot of mud.

If I understand what you mean, it seems like that would be minor compared to what is coming through the BOP.

Well they never perforated right? They had just cemented right before it blew out. So the oil has to either be coming up the annulus behind the casing or down the annulus and then up the inside of the casing.

Yeah, that's what I was wondering. Whether the junk is big enough to clog in the kink.

Wonder if they bumped the pressure to try to get more crap to lodge in the holes.

Little to none, Chip. Success would be just slowing it down some.
