It wouldn't change the rate but it would definitely change what we're seeing shoot out the top if the bottom is filled and holding.

Only way that would happen would be if the well was on a vacuum.

Good luck to you guys from Ohio. I can't stop watching this and I pray that they can stop the oil soon. Then they can start the long process of cleaning up all of the oil.

We will see mud blowing back until the combined weight of the mud in the flowline and in the wellbore over come the flowing tubing pressure of the formation

I would say combined weight of mud/oil column plus water pressure of the ocean is equal to or greater than the static pressure of the formation, but maybe I am missing something.

diat, I read in this thread (don't ask where) that there are 5 boats/tanks full of this mud and that if that's not enough ... well, then it's not a good thing. ?????

If they run out of mud before they have pushed the oil back deep enough (in very rough terms), then, in very precise terms, we are all screwed. The well will then just blow out whatever mud you have been able to get in there, and then it will go back to flowing oil.

Going by the info provided...

I think they were injecting at a rate of about 2,000 gpm...with a total of 50,000 barrels (2M gallons) to inject. Assuming a constant rate of 2,000 gpm, that'd be about 1,000 minutes of injection...or about 17 hours of injection.

That means the injection would be concluded at about 6 AM CDT tomorrow morning.

Will they stage down the pump rate as they start to get it under control? Any risk of fracing out the bottom?

Very good question. I imagine that would at least be a small concern.

I cannot get over how the reporters working this story fail to get the most basic facts right, and how they blow the wrong facts completely out of proportion. I am going to take my blood pressure medicine and go to bed.
