Does it take 21 days to cure or do they use some sort of fast setting hydraulic cement?

Maybe I m wrong about the mud and they are actually using a water based mud. I thought that I had read yesterday that it was a synthetic though.

when you are in open hole (the riser and bop has not been run yet) you inject the mud with nitrogen to speed up the solidifying process.

cnn.com has 2 links ... 1 has a screen of 6 cameras at once -- well, at least 6 views at once.

I simply cannot imagine the pressures we are talking about! It is mind boggling.

The most interesting camera on CNN to me is the Enterprise camera from under the BOP. Is that mud leaking out of a seal, or the mud from the top being pushed under by the water current?

I can't make heads or tails of the 6 or 7 screen shot ... I wish they'd change the single view every so often.

N2 is used to lighten the mud or cement it's injected into. Retarders are blended into the cement slurry to give you adequate pump time before it sets up.

COTiger -

I left LA 20 years ago and moved near the Outer Banks NC because work was better in NC but the sound and the marsh here are the only places that look like home.

I have had little optimism for the state I love in weeks, like everybody else.

Your updates are hopeful and I thank you for posting them.

Best I have felt about any of this in days -- after hours and hours of BP video and learning the layman's versions of all of this -- your updates are the only good I have heard in days.

Thanks for posting.

It's my pleasure and I'm walking a fine line betweeen what I can and can't say.

One thing to remember that my source constantly tells me is that they could enounter problems at any time or point during the process. They've got their fingers crossed like all of us do.
