How far down does the well go beneath the earth's surface?

1 mile below the water surface to the mudline....2 miles further down to the formation.

You know what's ironic?

MMS would jump your shite for dumping even small quantities of mud into the Gulf. Now, it's a blessing (if it works).

I am guessing there are quite a few people viewing this thread to get good information, so we might should keep the back and forth chit chat stuff to a minimum.

My guess would be that the synthetic was heavier. I don't really know.

it's really good not to see any visible leaks at the connections they put together enterring the choke & kill lines.

cnn.com has 2 links ... 1 has a screen of 6 cameras at once -- well, at least 6 views at once.

How much had to be done with the ROV things to be able to get to this point? I mean, what had to be assembled, screwed, bolted, whatever 5000 feet down?

nah. you can get the required density w/ either a water based on synethic system.

water based is cheaper and, probably more important, it's easier for mud companies to keep building volume at their plants near shorebases to ship out to them. this is gonna take a lot of mud.

water based would probably give you a better shot of having a cement plug set up in this situation too.

Does compressibility play into this decision?
