Zuckerberg is lying, he keeps giving the same answer that we control our data cause we post it and delete it. That is not what they are asking. They want know if FB sells it to advertisers or people like Cambridge. He is clearly dodging the question.

Regulation on Facebook would be a dream come true for Zuck because it makes it look like Facebook is being held accountable but he can still twist the regulations in a way that allows him to continue on his tirade of removing conservative voices from his platform.

Even though they are top dogs, I'm not sure how anyone can argue Facebook is a monopoly. They aren't actively doing anything to prevent other companies from entering the market. Ones that do well have to be different than what facebook does.

FB certainly isn't a monopoly. It's ignorant to even suggest it is.

Facebook needs regulation.

Twitter needs regulation.

FoxNews needs regulation.

TigerDroppings needs regulation.

Your HOA Newsletter needs regulation.

This crap will never end and I am amazed some do not recognize it. I guess this is sexier than trying to figure out how to balance the budget though . . . morons.

It's a monopoly over something that nobody actually needs It's not like they're selling precious resources like gas or pharmaceuticals.

A. Calls to regulate Facebook are stupid.

B. You can't view social media in the same way as a normal corporation when it comes to monopolies. Is Facebook a monopoly in the traditional sense? No, of course not. However the social dynamic of the product precludes other competitors from effectively competing. Why should I move to another social media platform when all my friends and family are already on Facebook?

Sure, there's nothing stopping me from starting my own Bookface. However, there's no way in hell I'm convincing enough people to move it to make it worthwhile.

The anti-trust shite runs deep. Think about every app you download now has the option to "Login using Facebook".

That is very much subjected to anti-trust and monopoly scrutiny.

It is too bad they were late to the game and only tech nerds and businesses adopted it when they rolled it out.

Everything about Google + was better than Facebook, except the actual network of people using it.

In the end they would have (and currently have) the same privacy and censorship issues as Facebook.

If nothing else they forced Facebook to evolve (messenger, video chat, video content, custom audiences for posts, mobile, advertising, etc). Facebook was pretty basic and bland prior.

There are multiple social media outlets. Twitter is a major competitor. Snapchat is one. There will be others.

How would you even go about breaking up Facebook?

There are multiple outlets, but they fulfill different roles. Twitter is not a direct competitor to Facebook.

I'm not saying things won't change down the road, but at this particular point in time in our society Facebook has an effective monopoly.

Which is why I led with the calls to regulate Facebook are stupid.

I think they have a good amount of similarities and they are both fighting it out to in branching out in other similar areas.

I don't think FB has a monopoly.
