Zippys has and will always be incredibly mediocre Mexican food for Baton Rouge, and that’s a low bar.

Like Mexican food and by LSU ? Go down Burbank, stop when you see Spanish.

It's TexMex and it is average but that is ok because they've got a great top shelf margarita (to-go in the styro please!)

I mean, they have a buffalo chicken burrito, they don't really hide the fact it's not authentic Mexican food

I like Zippys. Cheap beer, nice managers and staff and a great patio to sit around no matter the weather. Not the best food in the world but I don’t expect it to be, so it’s fine.

You don't get it, in order for it to be good and acceptable Mexican food the entire menu must be sourced from Mexico that morning and the beans and corn tortillas must be brought to your table by a real Mexican.

Otherwise you're just an uncultured swine. Probably don't even like triple stout non-GMO gluten free beers served in a bottle made from recycled ocean plastic. Pitiful.

They replaced it with other similar-type places a few times I want to say. It used to be called chicken grill or something like that.

Friend works at LSU. Says the line at Zippys in the Union is ridiculously long.

Guess it will be a hit

Neal is taking a page out of Big Tobacco's playbook.

Get the children hooked on your product while they're young and before you know it they're loyal 30's and 40 something's stumbling over from overpass bars.

Is that a problem?

I am not ashamed to say I am guilty as fricking charged....ESPECIALLY on St. Patrick's Day

I would generally head to Zippy's for a redneck and just get food because I was there, anyway (Buffalo Chicken Burrito or Chicken Chimichanga).

have you eaten mexican(tex-mex) food in BR.... the tex-mex scene is shite. And Zippys is one of the better places.

Man get the frick outta here with your pretentious bullshite. I've traveled ALL over Texas for years eating all the yummy Tex Mex recommended by locals in the Tax offices. Del Rio to Denton, Amarillo to Vidor, El Paso to Tyler. You're a dummy.

These two are great:
Los Reyes on Coursey
Ahuuas On Jones Creek

Tard. I'll still tickle your pickle in the Bulldog.

ETA: I can tell you how to dress up the Atomic Nachos at Zippys to feed 3 people for $13.

and before you even try to get in the argument, taquerias are different, BR has some great taquerias.

There isn’t an argument because I’m right.

They share menu items and ingredients.

“Different concepts” my arse.

I’ll give you that hipster nonsense like Gov’t Taco or Rock Paper Taco don’t belong in the conversation, but go sit down at El Limon where you order burritos, tacos, etc, and get chip and salsa when you sit down, then tell me it’s not the same stuff lol. only there it’s immensely better than where upper middle class housewives like to drink red wine with ice cubes in it. Zippys is at the bottom of the barrel and as stated above full of rats. Full stop.

But hey it’s great after a night of blow and vodka at Duvic’s or Ivar’s.

Zippy's is expensive for what it is. I don't think its amazing mexican food but it's not bottom of the barrel shite.

Zippy's crawfish enchiladas used to be the bomb, haven't been in a long time. I wish there would have been more "local" type spots in the union when I was in school that would have been cool.
