Does this seem like a highly risky move to make at this time with the communist shutdown in effect for the foreseeable future? I wish them well, support their perkins location despite being a bit pricey- great atmosphere- but being in the student union sort of negates their biggest draw- booze and a great patio area for people to congregate in

Zippy's got pricey?

I used to get the 2 tacos and chips lunch deal for $3.99 all the time

Zippys has and will always be incredibly mediocre Mexican food for Baton Rouge, and that’s a low bar.

Like Mexican food and by LSU ? Go down Burbank, stop when you see Spanish.

It's on par with any other mexican place. Definitely not more expensive than Izzo's.

I don't think the communist shutdown applies to take out from the Union. Low overhead and limited menu. It's just supplementing lost revenue from not being able to sit people at Perkins.

have you eaten mexican(tex-mex) food in BR.... the tex-mex scene is shite. And Zippys is one of the better places.

and before you even try to get in the argument, taquerias are different, BR has some great taquerias.

Who's going to be on campus to provide a customer base?

Fuzzys and Govn't Taco are superior to zippys, both in quality and pricing.

Zippy's pricing is not on par with their product

The dorms are at full capacity. They are holding in-person classes. Most staff are on campus several days a week, at least.

What do you think campus looks like right now?

Where in the union? Hopefully they replace that wannabe Izzos/Chipotle they always have in that one corner of the 2nd floor.

It’s true Zippys food is not, strictly speaking, good....but the experience of Zippys is what keeps you coming back. They can’t recreate that in the union and I fear will hurt their overall brand in the process.

I wonder if they're going to use LSU rats or bring their own from Perkins.

Totally agree. I love me some Zippy's. Sit outside and have a giant margarita and some nachos... can't beat that.

Fuzzys is terrible and government isnt in the family of Mexican taco joints. Its a lets see what hipster dish we can create and put on a tortilla.

I tried Fuzzy's when it first opened and hated it, but once they changed owners, I loved it. I haven't been in a long time, but I think its good.

Anyway, I agree with you that suggesting taquerias to people in conversations about places like Zippy's is absurd. They are completely different concepts.

I don't get the hate for Zippy's. It's been around for 20 years now and, to me, the food has always been pretty consistent and pretty good. Considering its just a little place and you can go there late at night, who cares?

So what if its not the absolute best mexican taco ever, neither is an omelet at Louie's, a burger from the chimes, etc. I'll take all those over the shite around most schools. Besides, its a local place.

Not when they’re the easiest place to drink when you’re underrated, and all you have to get is a single XL redneck because it’ll send you to the damn moon.

You neckbeards who virtue signal about authentic Mexican are the worst

Zippys make decent burritos, tacos and quesadillas that become incredible when you are drunk and crossing the street from Ivar‘s or Duvics.
