I collect antique bottles.

Saw a bottle on the top shelf wrapped in wicker. I knew it was a money bottle but played dumb and told the guy I thought my wife would like it.

Paid $20.

Sold it for $650.

Talbots pants and blouse, $3.00, Ralph Lauren leather bag, $3.99, Clarks shoes $4.00. When I first started thrift shopping over 30 years ago, I bought a formal gown for a ball, $9.00. That is what hooked me. Rarely buy retail except for unmentionables.

It’s the thrill of the hunt for me. And financially we are great; I think my thrift shopping helped in that area. Happy to say retired early, bought house in New Orleans 2014 that will be paid for next month. Thrifty is good.

Wood carved submarine warfare insignia. I think I paid around $15 for it... about 2.5 feet in length.

Wool is the best material to wear on long hunts. It's especially good as base layers. A good set of base layers from Sitka or first lite can be 2 to 300 dollars. I snagged a Merino Wool sweater (express brand, dillards) that was size xxxl and fit me perfect after I washed and shrunk it and then a pair of wool pants that I did the exact same thing for. 5 bucks for each. They are super warm and don't start to stink the way synthetic material does. I have a ton of wool hunting clothing from goodwill.

When I lived in Atlanta i would stop at the Goodwill in Tucker every day on my way home. Had a lot of great vintage toy finds.

The droids figures were the best, but Ibpull3d tens of thousands of dollars out of thay store. I found l9ts of Star Wars, Shogun Warriors, GI Joe, and lots of oddball knockoff toys.

The amount of mint in box toys i got there was uncanny. I also found some really rare stuff like a toungasaurus from Thundercats and a Castle Zendo from Arcos ThenOther World.

My best Goodwill purchase was ten Electric Football hog leg teams. Bought them for .89 sold them for $1025.

My best estate sale purchase was a binder for $35 filled with about 300 Tabacco Cards from the 1890's, 9 baseball(California League) Which I sold for $8500, 21 other sports cards for $600. And the rest for $400. So about $9500 total. I just sold the remaining scrub cards for $235.20. You can find them on ebay, eBay item number:292552869750.

My most cherised estate sale find was a piece of the engine from a Zero that was shot down at Pearl Harbor made into an ashtray. It was from the zero that crash landed on the island of Ni'ihau. Very famous incident, look up Ni'ihau incident if you want to look into the history. Bought it for $14 and took to the Antiques road show, they estimated the worth to be $1500-$2500. Which I believe is a bit low.

The strangest find I ever made was the shell of a World War II Navy practice bomb. They would fill it with sand or water. I paid $1 for it, and it looks kick-arse in the corner of my office. It looks like this but is in much better shape:

I once found a bunch late 1960's baseball pennants. There were a couple of dozen of them, and I think I paid fifty cents each. Probably wasn't worth a lot, but they looked cool in my bedroom.

Found a bunch of funny t-shirts over the years.

That's about it.

The top piece is a rocker arm cover. Basically a piston cover. The bottom piece I have no idea. The rocker arm cover portion was id'ed as an early Zero part by the curator of the Evergreen museum in McMinnville Oregon and confirmed by the curator of the Museum of the Pacific War.

Hope this link works.
