I guess I need to talk about my greatest (money wise) find in my hobby. I find an ad for old toys in the paper. I call him and he says his room mate moved out (of the trailer), left these toys, and he owed him $200. I was still a toy novice at the time (this purchase basically made me become a toy expert).
I show up and he has a dozen or so boxes of Mego Superhero dolls and Six Million Dollar Man toys, all still in the boxes. I give him the $200, I was still new to the game and spending $200 was scary as shite, I knew I was going to be in the dog house with the wife.
I was nervous but when I get home, I knew I had hit the jackpot. I was thinking I was gonna make $1000. All said and done, I sold everything for over $7000.
There were some RARE MEGO dolls and vehicles in the lot.

Any local artists that you collect paintings of?

I really don't collect anything any more, since I sold my LSU collection. I do have a couple pieces, but not local. Last summer I was in Santa Fe, NM. There was a Native American artist in the square where they sell all their jewelry. He tells me he has a piece in the Smithsonian, and galleries in NY and Cali. (I did walk away and Google him, it was true) He is asking $120 for small oil painting of Native Americans, in a Picasso style form. I talk him down to $50. After a few minutes of bantering, he takes the $50. What sucks is, I lost his card and for get his name. His signature on the painting is unreadable.
I also own a one of kind Neal Adams drawing of my daughters he did for me. I think I stole it for $200.

Bought a dress today at Goodwill for 6 dollars. Pretty sure I will get my money's worth out of it. Actually it is similar to one I bought a while back for $70 retail. The goodwill one actually looks better on me.

I've never even heard of MEGO dolls.
Now the Six Million Dollar Man, yeah. Was it the one with the bionic eye.
I passed on a Tonka Allied moving truck like this for $100 at an estate sale recently. It wasn't in pristine shape though. Goes for about $200 on ebay.

With the box? I would guess $300+, but the prices on these things have dropped over the last 5-10 years.
The hot toys are always the toys that the 30-40 year olds played with, so right now, the toys from the 80's and early 90's are hot

Mego was big in the 70's. They made superhero 8" figures. I've seen some rare ones still in the package sell for $12,000.
I played with 6 Million Dollar Man toys in the 70's. The collection I bought had nearly every piece including Big Foot, Oscar Goldman, and the robot Steve Austin (forget name). All these were in the box, plus the capsule.
They sold for about $1000. The Mego's went for $6000+

I went ti an estate sale about three years ago and spent 500 bucks on some in box mego 3.75 inch stuff. I got a near full run of blackhole figures, a full run of Dukes of Hazzard figures, including all the vehicles, a Spider car with Green Goblin, and to top it off I got the Greatest American Hero buggy that came with Bill Maxwell and Ralph. I kept the Greatest American Hero set, and sold the rest for about 6000.
I have been offered $5000 for the GAH set.

I went to the estate sale today on Rodney Rd. You want to talk about a guy that bought every "middle of the road" gadget from the 50's, 60's, and 70's and threw nothing away.
The house was packed full of junk and the estate sale company had it marked way too high. There were at least 2000 cookbooks.
I found a box of about 500-1000 postcards from the 30's-60's. The first one I pull out was a Las Vegas Sahara Hotel from the 50's. There was no price, so I take the entire box to see what they want for the entire lot. They tell me they are 50 cents each. (~$300). I wouldn't have paid $20 for the box.
I go back and cherry pick the box and I find a total of 8 old Vegas postcards and a dozen Route 66 postcards.
I didn't buy shite after being there for an hour.
