I think people are underestimating the paranoia that will ensue.
Thats not to say "I don't want to win," that's retarded. But it would abs be scary.

I think you are required to do media interviews. Recently there was an issue with the New York State lottery where a guy from the hood wanted to keep identity private He said all the thugs would be after him or his family.

They can obviously pinpoint that down even further if they wanted to do so.

I would be more worried about my own stupidity of putting my pants with the ticket in the washing machine over somebody somehow seeing it in my eyes that I am now a billionaire and killing me for the ticket.
You could always turn it in first thing in the AM if you're that worried. You wouldn't get any sleep the night before but fear would have nothing to do with it.

Yeah, the scary part would be after your name is released to the public. What do you do? Legally change your name before you pick it up?

I wouldn’t be able to sleep but while I was up I’d pack a bag and jet out in the morning...sleep on the plane....

Plenty of people turn it in immediately and (as far as we know) seem to be fine and unmurdered.
Sure, waiting and "planning" would be better and it's what I would do but if you were honestly shitting kittens about being kidnapped and killed before you turn in your ticket, just get it over with and go right from the lottery office to the airport to hide out in some random city.
Yeah, the FDIC doesn't insure a billion dollars in your checking account but you can safely play the odds that Chase or Capital One won't go under for the week or two that the money sits in there if you take the "get money first, plan second" option.

Every time someone looks at you funny your mind will be running wild.

Once that ticket is in the hands of the lottery office, they can look at me however they want.

I hope your prospective gang of thieves have an atomic warhead to threaten the citizens with.

I wouldn’t tell a soul. Plus I bought my ticket out of state anyways.
I’d put the ticket in a portable safe and go to claim. And wouldn’t stop till I got there

In most states, can't you claim anonymously?
Posted on 10/23/18 at 7:44 pm to WoWyHi
It's the other way around. In most states you can't. In a few you can.
Posted on 10/23/18 at 7:45 pm to castorinho
Well that sucks. You'd have to hire private security.
