Think about that, everyone would want to win, lets say you are the lucky winner though. State lotterys usually report within hours the city and store that sold the winning ticket. People get murdered for thousands of dollars, now you have a ticket to a billion dollars in your house. Even if you don't tell anyone people are likely still looking for u based on the initial information.

That would be a very long, terrifying night or set of nights, until you are able to claim.

Can you actually be anonymous winning that sum of money? They have to allow that right?

I'm not even telling my dog if I win.

Varies state by state, in California you can't be anonymous

I would pack my shite and the family and go to the camp at first light. Start calling tax attorneys in Houston when I get there.

My biggest fear would be losing or the ticket being destroyed before validation. The reason I don't blame people who turn the ticket in asap the next morning.

, no shite.

I don't believe there has ever been a multi state jackpot go unclaimed. I'll take my chances.

ETA - in 2002 a $63 million mega millions ticket went unclaimed in New York.

Eh, paying people 10 million dollars to track you down, kill you, and take the ticket overnight is a pretty amazing return on investment. To each their own though!

You'd be the dumbest person in the fricking world to trust a police officer in that situation

Sounds like something a guy holding a $1B ticket would do. That's how you get mugged.

Even the average OTer is smart enough not to immediately go on Facebook and post "Hey, guess what?" if they should win.

Otherwise, how in the hell would anybody know it was me before I cashed it in?

The odds of randomly finding the winner based on the limited info that is given are as rare as winning it. Don't be stupid.

Are you claiming the ticket tonight at 10 P.M. when the lottery office is closed? Good luck hanging out in downtown New Orleans until first light with ur ticket in hand.

That's the point, you're fair game until you turn in the ticket.
