If the person is black, you might have a Larry David situation on your hands.

My 88 year old grandfather is terrible about this. In his mind it is still 1977 and that $1.00 is a perfectly good tip on a $10-$15.00 check at breakfast.

I always tip half of what It would cost if I would have to pay if someone else is paying. They blessing me with a meal, I'm going to bless the server with a nice tip.

As someone who grew up bussing tables, waiting tables and being a barback, this is inexcusable, regardless of where she comes from.

go ask the waitress with a music note tats on her arm at the cheesecake factory that is right next to the lakeside mall

talks with a bit of a lisp. I'm willing to bet she remembers

but then I have no idea why I would go to such great effort to make something like that up

ETA: now that I remember, it wasn't a lisp. She had just had some oral surgery of some kind and was still healing. Probably doesn't have the problem anymore

No bro, not saying you are making it up, just saying it's hard to believe a grown adult doesn't know how to properly tip.

Some 80-90 year old man still stuck in the 70s, I could believe.

you judge based on a tip and they are the snooty one?

Yeah. If it's a sixty dollar meal and three dollars are dropped, I am judging that person. I've been in that waiter's/ waitresses shoes before.

If someone is nice enough to pay for my meal, I always say 'let me get the tip'.

Very rarely do they refuse.

If somebody buys you lunch it's customary to spring for the tip, you cheap bastard.

Lot of people saying something similar, so what if you are paying and friend says I got the tip, then they under tip?

I still say mind your own business, someone offers to pay, tell them thank you, my friends and I alternate paying for lunch and never have I even cared to look at how much they are tipping, and I would be offended if someone told me I was not tipping enough ( directly or indirectly) after paying for their meal

It's not that far fetched.
For example, I have been tipping 15-20% (up to 25% on smaller tabs) for the past few years regardless of service; and I thought that was great.
Well I read a thread here recently where apparently 20% is the new norm, I definitely wasn't aware of that etiquette and I have since adjusted.
Like he said some people just don't know.

Define "didn't tip enough" because it's kind of subjective. People generally tip between 15-20%.

Yeah, seriously. $3 is way too much of a tip for that bill
