If it's an Open House sign then it will only be there for a couple hours. Don't be a piece is shite, just leave the sign alone

I would take it and use it as a target

Those really do make great target holders. We get signs from our church at certain points of the year to advertise special events going on. I took 3 of them to the range last time I went. They hold up well and you can blast them for a while before falling apart.

You dumb arse. It's the agents duty to promote your property! Let the agent do their job to get your house sold. And please, get the frick out of the way.

Technically, it's likely that it's placed in an easement that isn't your property.

Technically, old Baw pays taxes on it, must maintain it, and is legally liable for it.

You don't own that!

Many here are telling the OP to get over it, or just deal with it. But if the agent had approached him and kindly ASK if he wouldn't mind, I don't think this would be a thread.

As for ownership. Most landowners with a servitude must simply make that available for utilities and other infrastructure, NOT some real estate agent trying to gain corner lot exposure to sell a house.

So, if the agent did not ask I would take it down or go put it in front of Mayor Broomes home to find out if signs can be out anywhere we feel.

Leave it alone, what's the big deal? Not like it's a political sign.

Lot of people here seem to think you don't own the servitude

I'm not sure you know what a servitude is. It's either his property OR it's a servitude. Any street with city services and utilities has a servitude. There may not be a sidewalk or ditch between the grass and the street, but it's a servitude. 95% of the time.

Regardless. It's a plastic sign on the corner for a day that's helpful to your neighbor and does you zero harm. How is that a problem?

No one seems to know what a servitude is here. A property owner still owns the property that is encumbered by a servitude or easement. The servitude gives limited rights of use to other entities, however no ownership is transferred. However, based on the OP, the sign is probably within the road Right-of-Way if the street is public. The right-of-way is owned by the municipality. In Baton Rouge and most areas around south Louisiana, that ROW is typically 50' for curb and gutter and 60' for open ditch. The road is generally 22-27' if curb and gutter. Do the math and there is land between the curb/edge of road and your property line that the city owns. You maintain it, but the city owns it. If you don't have an HOA, you could stop cutting it and the city would have to come cut it since they own it. If you have an HOA, good luck if you stop cutting it. The sign is probably in the city ROW if it is less than 10' from the curb.

Practically speaking, if you don't like it, pull it up about 10 pm tonight and no one will ever know who did it.

That goes for stop signs, too.

What about in a gated community? I do know the subdivision is responsible for street maintenance not the city because it's gated.

FIFY.

You're talking thousands of dollars on the table here. Most agents will spread em wide if you hold the keys.

Go find another agents sign and put it next to the one in your yard.

That would not bother me, as long as there is an arrow pointing to the open house

I know what it all means but didn't bother to add another layer by explaining terminology. Basically, you own what's within your property line, not the ROW. Servitudes can be anywhere, etc. The point that it's not his yard doesn't require a greater level of detail. And it doesn't matter unless much he plans on going to court. Over a tiny sign in the vicinity of his property.

Moving the sign makes their lives slightly more difficult because you are... mad? Have hurt feelings? Feel disrespected? What is gained by moving it? I'd really like to know.
