How did the rape thing go?

If she's accepting you, that means she doesn't believe the mom? Is she resenting the mom?
Or did you all come to the conclusion that the rape did happen but was a separate instance?

She opened up this weekend more than before. She doesn't have a good relationship with her mom. Her grandmother is the mother figure in her life and has been since she was young.

I detailed earlier in the thread how the mom fully admitted I was not the guy who "raped" her. And my daughter deeply resents her mom, among many other things, for telling her that rape story when she was 14 years old.

To your point, I told my daughter: when you think about what your mom hid from you or told you, please remember she was put in a very tough spot at 20 years old, because of me. She didn't have the help she needed to raise a child by herself, in part because of me. I am just as responsible, so keep that in mind. And I approach it as: who knows, maybe she was really raped around the same timeframe? But my daughter doesn't believe her mom's story. She didn't say as much, but I get the feeling the two of them have spent the past 2 years working through that. I'm not asking those types of questions right now. Someone said it here previously: admitting to family you got pregnant with a stranger on a camping trip = shame & guilt. Saying you got raped = sympathy. Seems like we both think it's that simple.

My great uncle was a aviator in the Navy. He was killed in a plane crash in 1949.

Around 2003, my dad received a call from a genology researcher saying she represented a woman in Connecticut who had been given up for adoption by a navy nurse who was stationed at Norfolk about the same time my great uncle was also there. My grandfather has just recently passed away, so we were never able to ask if he knew anything about it.

This was well before 23-n-me testing was around, and other than confirming the basic details, we did not conclusively establish a connection. Never heard from the researcher again. Not sure if she had any family to further confirm, and my dad did not want to pursue it.

Sounds like you fear truth.

For people like you, 23andme offers an opportunity to change your username for their DNA Relatives component.

OP simply made a mistake of not changing his name. I’ve gone by Malik D’Antre Washington and Harden Thicke during different times.

No one has ever messaged me, nor do I think they would if a kid ever turned up.

Rest your fears, bud. Despite what you hear in the media these days, men still cannot get pregnant ;)

I found out that I have a 1/2 uncle not far from where my father grew up. In his profile picture he looks a lot like my dad. I’m guessing my grandfather was frickin’ around back in the day.
I talked to my brothers about it and we decided to just leave it alone.

This thread makes me go back to supporting blood tests before marriage, but since obviously a lot of babies are born out of wedlock maybe we should at least require something more definite than a woman’s word on who to list as the father on birth certificates before all states unknowingly become like Alabama…

This exact situation happened to a family member of mine. He always invites his daughter to family events and she joins. They have a good relationship and worked through the trauma. It took a few years and it seems to have been worth it for both of them.
