So every year, your basically need to be putting almost $2,000 per year away just for the new battery you’ll have to buy.

Your an idiot if you think EV’s are practical

Strange, I’ve never thought I needed to get rid of a vehicle because the engine wouldn’t last 8 years. Way to save the planet there bub.

Someone will down vote this and argue against it. All while they can sit in one and find out they were wrong in 30 seconds

You realize that there are people out there who enjoy new technology and actually want to purchase an EV because of the experience and not for planet saving reasons? This may shock some of you but EVs make perfect sense for a large part of the population.

Yeah I don't give a frick about saving the planet. A vehicle that I can plug into my home instead of going to gas stations and has much better performance than any ICE could dream of having is appealing to me.

Not if you drive a Prius. MIL has an 06 Prius she bought new and never replaced the batteries in... it's still going strong.

I have a nagging thought every time I see what I autopay to the power company or fill up my car that I would really rather be totally off grid: solar, Prius, the whole works.

But just can't pull the trigger. And I really don't want to drive an EV.

Right now the resell values are impressive but I would not bet they stay that way.

Resale values for EVs trail ICE cars (per NADA) already and the gap is widening.

Overall wholesale values are declining right now in the used market, about 5% for ICE, and about 35% for EVs.

Of course, retail prices are falling for EVs so that's another factor that affects used prices.

ETA: Used cars finally coming down

Dude...if you are only cooking your thanksgiving dinner for 30 minutes, you might want to recheck the recipe. Food poisoning is not pleasant.

Not having to go to the gas station and deal with the clientele there is one of the only pluses I see with EV’s

Depending on the distance traveled between charges 30 minutes wont do it...the post I was responding to said over night, not 30 minutes. According to Tesla it is, depending on distance travelled, 6-12 hours with their 50 amp residential charger. Thats about the same amount of time it takes to cook a turkey and the same amount of current.

God bless and god speed...but do not demand a subsidy so you can experience the new technology. I'd like to experience some strange every once in a while, ain't nobody going to subsidize my doing so....

Typical 20-80% charges on the Tesla unit are about 8 hours. My wife does that once every 7-10 days. Some choose to plug in every night and keep it topped off at 80 and others let it run down. It’s about 50/50 on the # of people doing either. Just behavior and range anxiety I think.

O&G have benefitted from subsidies for years and are currently at record highs. You should be upset about those too.

quote:

Nov 23 (Reuters) - World governments agreed at the COP26 climate summit in Glasgow two years ago to phase out "inefficient" fossil fuel subsidies to help fight global warming. Since then, however, global fossil fuel subsidies have risen $2 trillion to $7 trillion, according to the International Monetary Fund, as governments around the world moved to protect consumers from rising energy prices.

Has anyone in these EV threads demanded a subsidy for an EV?

Are you under the impression that car manufacturers didn't ever receive subsidies before EVs or that oil companies don't get massive tax breaks and subsidies?

The EV hate on this board is so childish and illogical. It's just another version of Trump Derangement Syndrome.

you don’t have to like it, fact is ~12% of the world still doesn’t have running electricity. In order for that to ever change, O&G is required. O&G isn’t going away and it’s very unlikely consumption will decrease any time soon.
