Some sort of blackmail?
That could certainly be possible, but it would have to be the type of information you could immediately return to the present and use to your advantage.

I feel like most singular moments that are in the history books are things I would rather not see, like the start of war, murder, and other atrocity.
I would probably want to either see the big bang, or Jesus's birth. Settle some big theory once and for all.
Otherwise
- Jurrasic period overlooking a valley chock full of various dinosaur species
- The signing of the Declaration of Independence
- Times Square on V-Day
- Pompeii before Vesuvius blew (just to get the before and after)

that's a pretty good choice, you'd get to see ancient Roman culture and an in-tact city, along with a massive natural event.

Man people REALLY didn’t understand this hypothetical at least on the first page. How about NYC when WW2 victory was first announced or something in a land teeming with dinosaurs.

1. The first Thanksgiving in 1621 where the Pilgrims and Indians broke bread together. The joining of two vastly different worlds drilled down to almost an exact moment.
2. Hiroshima, Japan right after the atom bomb was detonated would obviously be an awful site, but interesting from an observation standpoint.
3. Marco Polo meeting with Kublai Khan for the first time if you could understand what they were saying.
4. Observing a functioning slave plantation in the same small town where I grew up would be up there for me, but not for most people.
Hard to nail it down to one 30 minute period in all of history.

Then the thread should be “what historical event would you like to witness?”
Note: there is no historical event that I would like to witness that would mean more than the potential for changing me and my family’s future

Since you wanna play the holistic watch and don’t touch approach...
Let’s see... no particular order
Opening attack on verdun
Battle of tours 732 where Charles the hammer pushed back the invading Muslim horde and saved Europe
Teutoburg Forest
Canne
Landing on the moon

You mean before he altered the situation given, thus making basically the entire first page not applicable?

Good one. I'd also consider the Somme or maybe the Battle of Jutland. But the artillery barrage at Verdun would be insane to witness.

Not a single person would've believed you. They never thought that would be possible... they'd have thought you were a crazy man and gone on about their business. Then when it happened, you would be looked for as a co-conspirator.

I would go back and see my adopted son's birth

I would want to watch Elvis the night he allegedly died. I would want to see how they actually got him out of the house and how they got the body double into the bathroom to fake his death.
