Did he weld that chicken wire looking fence?

If her husband was a good welder he would have been working already...it's turnaround season and business is booming. If he just getting the call today ....he is bottom of the welding barrel.

Assume this guy clears $18/hr (75% of that $24 “good weld” meme). The rims were, say, $1500. The wife must appreciate that he spent about 2 weeks away from his family so someone at a job site might be impressed by his truck.
Good jobs do pay per diem. It's usually varies between $75-$100 per day, tax free. Plus all site jobs are a minimum 50 hrs a week with most being 60 so at time and a half welders can do better than most entry level college grads.

If that is all he's making, he's a really shitty welder and is working at a shop and not traveling.
The good welders that chase turnaround a pipeline jobs are making $37-$42/hr and sometimes get double pay for all overtime. Per diem would be $100 to $125 a day.
I don't look down on those welder baws, but yeah that facebook post is just stupid.

That’s not true at all. I’ll weld circles around you and I don’t make close to that.

I wish it was legal to slap the shite out of anyone who uses the handclap emoji.

Call your friends at SWAT and Turner SWS and ask what the A class welders are making for turnarounds

Maybe if he just graduated welding school...

$63 an hour for straight time is cheap. The company I worked for was at $75 an hour for straight time

Sure welders probably make more money than me
They make about $24 per hour in the South. They also take fricking forever to finish jobs and milk every week for a shitload of overtime. But the private market is perfect.

The real money is being a CWI. Just wait around until the work is done and then go inspect for however long. You never actually do any real work, all the while making coin.
