Well technically they're supposed to inspect during the welding to make sure they're using the right materials and following weld procedures for the weld they're making.
Unless you're talking about the ndt techs.

And will hold that torch until the day that they die. All while never making over $24\hr. And we all know they ain't saving a dime of that to retire on.

Welders can move up and make more money depending on experience and where they are willing to work. A good, experienced welder can make over $100k a year....but I agree this doesn't mean they are saving any of it.

I have two different guys I hire on occasion for whatever is needed. Usually a few days a month and they charge me $200.00 hour portal to portal, rig, insurance taxes etc...turnkey. Good hardworking family men.
And worth every fricking penny.
My neighbor growing up became an underwater welder when we were about I guess early 20's. He retired and lives in Aspen skiing and hiking.
Not all welders are dumbasses.

Such generalization. As I noted earlier, the good one's make much much more than that and get a shitton of overtime on top.
Yeah, a lot of them probably don't advance, but they can move up to QC, Foreman, GF, etc if they are worth a damn.

Your friends must’ve gone to Moore Career college, where they can have you hired if you’re one of the next 30 welders to register for classes
