Just like in a fist fight. Head is one of the hardest things to hit. I’m going for the knee or thigh if I have a clean shot. Then when stumped over probably pepper the shite out of their whole body.

The guy who killed the S.C. Trooper was shot 6 times in the chest and stomach with a .357 magnum and it didn't stop him.
Pistols are not great stoppers.

But also the sides of a vest are fairly unprotected, so if the guy is running perpendicular to you there is room for the shot there.

Remember the North Hollywood shoot out from 20 years ago? Cops were outgunned and actually got AR 15s from a sporting goods store. Bad guys had assault weapons and body armor. Cop pistol and shotgun rounds weren’t penetrating. One guy was shot and allowed to bleed out and die on the street. The other was walking around still blasting away when he was taken out by a pistol shot to the dome.

That's what I was thinking of specifically. Why didn't these guys go down after getting shot multiple times?

Violence of action and heavy volumes of lead down range. But then that depends on the backdrop, if there’s lots of people you have to find another option. Someone earlier said fire extinguisher, that would be great but then you’re going have to shorten the distance between you and the one with the heavy firepower. Lots of variables come into play here. And like some others have said, just going on he offensive may be enough to stop the attack to an extent.

For a fricking genius, his plan wasn't very well executed. None of his booby traps exploded at his apt. He had an AR-15, a pump action 12 ga. shotgun and a .40 cal semiautomatic pistol. The theatre had ~400 people in it and he only managed to kill 12 and wound 58. That's lousy marksmanship.
