easy access to both parks from jackson WY, which has direct flights from a lot of larger hubs.
not downplaying the beauty of RMNP, but if those are my two choices it's an easy choice.

The parks are right next to one another with maybe 10 miles or so between them.

Make sure to keep an eye out for those damn hatchery signs (they are easy to miss). You will be the only one there and will be catching the hell out of them and a park ranger will show up and politely write you a $300 ticket. Worth it for some though bc you will absolutely catch one every cast lol. Best of luck both rivers are beautiful.

Stay in Jackson. Very cool little town with lots to do. It's probably 20 minutes to Tetons and just over an hour to the southern entrance to Yellowstone.
I was there the week after Labor Day last year and the crowds weren't bad at all. I actually preferred the Tetons to Yellowstone. Great fishing in both.

For my money? (I lived in Jackson WY as a fishing guide) I would opt for the Green River below Flaming Gorge reservoir.

Tetons for beauty but might look at the western edge of yellowstone for fishing. Look at the henrys fork or even henry lake for massive rainbow/cutthroat hybrids.
If 257WBY chimes in listen to the man. His son works at one of the fly shops outside yellowstone and could probably point you right.
I fished with Trouthunter outfitters in Island Park Idaho and they were fantastic. Our guide was Rance Dye and I highly recommend him. Contact # is 208-390-6416. We caught several large rainbows including my personal best 27 incher.

The Gallatin River is just to the north of West Yellowstone. That is where they filmed 'A River Runs Through It'. However, West Glacier/ Flathead Lake area or Teton area is very nice areas. Remember though, fishing in Yellowstone Park is 'catch and release'. I do not know about RMNP.
Do not fish on the east side of Glacier. That is the Blackfeet Indian reservation. They can seize your fishing gear, fish, and vehicle, beat the sh*t out of you and leave you and you can't do a thing. That is their land, their laws.

I’ve spent a lot of time in the Tetons and there are a lot less tourists compared to Yellowstone. Yellowstone is one of the most famous parks in the country, so naturally it attracts more people. As far as driving you’re right, but it depends to what part of Yellowstone you’re driving to.

Did you fish the south fork? My buddy and I went last year and had a fantastic time. Damn near every time we threw a dry fly, we were getting hits

It's closer to 1.5 hours unless traffic is terrible.
Estes is a cool little town and has lots of affordable places to stay.

this thread got me reminiscing about that trip. here's a pic of the kid with the first trout of the day. we were just getting set up. she didn't even make a cast. she had her rod in her hand and the fly floating next to the boat and this guy came up and took it. it was wide open from there. like I said it was a great day. guide was Jason Moore with Jackson Hole Anglers.

I went to the Grand Canyon a 2 years ago after I graduated from LSU and pictures really dont do it justice. Im planning on going back and going white water rafting down the Colorado River sometime in the future.
