FWIW, September is going to be getting pretty cold in the high mountains...depending on what you want to do, you may want to adjust that. Get in touch with some local fly fishing shops and they can point you to the right time of year for clear water and good insect hatches that will dictate the kind of fishing you want to do. No point in going all that way to fish with a cork and bait if the insects are not hatching.
ETA: Also, you should pay attention to the altitude where you will be fishing. It is a lot harder to breathe at altitude and you don't want any of your party feeling sick all the time because of it.

Good advice from Spankum. My line froze solid on my rod fishing in Yellowstone in late September. I hauled arse back to South Carolina.

he did emphasize that we needed to get the fish back in the water. like I said that was the first trout of the day and we we were all excited. I was saying how proud I was and Jason was saying that he was glad we already got the skunk off our back. I have a feeling the fish lived. that was the only fish pic we took and we caught a lot of fish. bonus pic. bison at sunrise same day.

If you want to wade and do things yourself, Atherton Creek is a good spot. It's a bit hard to find but listed on google maps. Lots of panfish brownies. Its between Jackson and the Tetons in the Bridger-Teton NF. The campground sits on a "slide" lake that a glacier split and you can wade the upper or lower water and fish, or fish the lake. Now that I wrote it out its not really an epic experience, but a quality, overlooked one. Locals will tell you it sucks for their own selfish reasons.

Thanks for the input, guys. So much information out there.
My brother was leaning to RMNP as he thinks it would be an easier trip, I was more on Yellowstone, bc I want to go ahead and check off a bucket list item while we are out there fishing with my dad. This way very well be his only trip out there.
