Halloween has turned into a fragmented, watered down version of what is used to be. Instead of everyone trick or treating on Halloween night, parents take their kids to "safe zones" like churches or parking lots or down commercial streets where they can go collect candy while wearing a costume (I don't call that trick or treating). These events trypically aren't even on Halloween. Some towns schedule a night for trick or treating that's not even on Halloween night. Why!?

We are robbing our children of one of the most special times of being a child. There's nothing like trick or treating on Halloween night. Seeing mobs of kids all walking the dark streets at the same time, having nearly all houses in all neighborhoods with their lights on inviting trick or treaters, and being able to look forward to that night every year without having to ask "what night are we allowed to trick or treat this year?"

Halloween should not be a carefully planned, controlled event where old people force kids to engage in Halloween on the old people's terms. Halloween is Halloween and old people should deal with it and give the kids the Halloween they got when they were kids!

I agree.

Had mycousin tell me we should all head over to her subdivision on the north shore on the 27th for Halloween. I said I’m in a wedding that night but that’s not Halloween anyway.

Her response “oh well we moved it to the weekend for the kids so they can go to school”

Me: What?!

My daughter will go trick or treating in our neighborhood on Halloween night.

Someone should tell every neighborhood I've ever lived in.

I blame Bill Clinton. Before he ruined everything, Halloween was great and music was better. Now it's all rap and kids dressing weird. That son of a bitch.

Blame child predators and perverts and society accepting those people. The amount of perversion in America now is absurd. We used to be a good Christian nation. We don’t know our neighbors anymore. What happened to watching out for each other in the neighborhood? Now we allow perverts and sex offenders in our neighborhoods and we don’t work together to force them out

Dying holiday (pun)? Yes.

Does that stop me from decorating and scaring kids and having the best GD Halloween yard in the neighborhood? No.

Our neighborhood goes all out for trick or treating. Sure there are more trunk or treats or things like that but everyone I know does the traditional Halloween.

This is overblown.

You sound allergic to “Old People”. This condition will stop flaring in due time.

Not to mention with all these parent Facebook groups, it’s getting very hard to give the kids free drugs in their candy
