When I was a kid I was in a group (with my parents) that went to an Elvis concert with EWE. Police escort to venue & I recall the spotlights hitting us when we walked in just before Elvis came out

Where I used to go to get my van conversion done and driving equipment installed, the dude who used to be head of the NAACP when Edwards was Governor went there as well to do get his conversion van worked on.

One day I was waiting for them to do some repairs and he and his wife (who is/was white BTW) came in. We got to talking and I don't know how we got to this conversation, but he told me "I would vote for Edwin Edwards if he ran against Jesus Christ".

To cut out a long post, I pretty much found out he was Edwin Edwards ticket to the "black vote". He would find something to make a race issue out of, sort of made himself the voice of the black people, with the help of Edwards, then when election time came around ole boy would say "we need to vote Edwin Edwards".

And that, my friends, is politics 101. Connect with as many people who represent groups of people (head of corporations, churches, unions, etc) as possible. You do favors for those who have the most influence over many voters, they keep you in power.

father despised Edwards for bringing legalized gambling back to our state.

Why was he against gambling? People still do it if its illegal.

My sister and his niece were good friends and somehow he ended up thinking my sister was his niece.

He used to drive around LSU etc wearing really expensive sunglasses, he would see a hot girl and say Baby your eyes are too beautiful you have to put on sunglasses or something and give them to the girl

What does anything you said have to do with the gambling and small businesses gambling away their money?

On the small businesses gambling away their money, if you don't see the damage gambling addiction causes to families then I don't know what to tell you. Apparently some people are susceptible to gambling addiction. I know at least two men who found out their wives had a gambling addiction. Fortunately, they were able to stop the bleeding ($) before they lost everything. Both lost about $30 thousand dollars each. Ouch.

Do you agree gambling addiction in Louisiana is a real problem? Do you even care? Apparently from the way you argue it doesn't matter to you. I'll admit the sound of those slot machines humming has an almost hypnotic effect when you step into that casino.

But I suspect you're involved in the gaming industry either directly or indirectly.

Anyway, like I said, gamble away Pilgrim.

I don’t think the government should not allow gambling because some people can’t handle it. By your logic, the government should tell us we cannot have beer or liquor.

Alcohol addiction probably does 10 times the damage that gambling does.
People should be free to make their choices.

I worked at Luthers BBQ back when Dave Treen was governor, and Eddie was part owner in Luthers, and every Thursday he and his entourage would walk through the kitchen and make his appearance to which everyone would bow and kiss his ring. Not really, but it a big thing was made of it for sure. Then he and his entourage would sit in the dining room eating lunch and I suppose plot his next big move, or who knows what was discussed at that table. As a teenager, it was a pretty big thing obviously, but he was the consummate politician for sure, always shinning it on.

guess being extroverted and having an accent is more important to boomer voters than being competent and non corrupt.

It was the generation above the boomers for a huge part. That fading old southern democrat faction that didn’t realize the standard had changed so much for Dems. Blue dog, etc.
