I worked at Luthers BBQ back when Dave Treen was governor, and Eddie was part owner in Luthers, and every Thursday he and his entourage would walk through the kitchen and make his appearance to which everyone would bow and kiss his ring. Not really, but it a big thing was made of it for sure. Then he and his entourage would sit in the dining room eating lunch and I suppose plot his next big move, or who knows what was discussed at that table. As a teenager, it was a pretty big thing obviously, but he was the consummate politician for sure, always shinning it on.

Was there a Luther’s in BR ? I used to absolutely love the Luther’s on Severn and it seemed like we were there almost every week.. i had no idea EWE had an ownership stake in any of them .

Absolutely, it's their choice. Just don't expect me to pay the taxes (income or property) to provide social services and counseling for gambling addiction. Which brings me to my question. Does the gaming industry provide counseling for people afflicted with gambling addiction? I mean I would think they would want to be a good conscientious business neighbor in the community.

Fair enough?

It was on Essen Lane near Perkins. Next to the shopping center that had a Gulf States movie theater in it.

I used to love those huge stuffed potatoes.

Back in the 80s I helped a buddy install one of those big satellite dishes at his house off Highland road. Nice house. Had a stuffed bear - not a toy, a real taxidermy stuffed bear. He wasn’t home at the time. His first wife seemed nice though.

Must have been a bit of a cheapskate cause we were not professional installers - just a couple of college kids.

Think this is probably that bear at the 6:20 mark. Big Grizzly. Video from '82

Yeah, it was by Bennigans off Airline near Cortana Mall. It’s a concrete slab now.

The Onion Loaf was seriously good. I remember I could devour an entire loaf by myself on my break.

he chats up the very pretty, very sweet and very young receptionist. He goes to the conference room and an hour later a dozen expensive long-stemmed roses arrive for the receptionist.

That’s a whole ‘nother level dude.

I stood in line next to him inside Subway at Pelican Point, not long before he passed. He looked a bit rough and wasn’t dressed all that well. He was rocking grass-cutting New Balance shoes.

I grabbed my phone and Googled him to see if he was still alive, just to be sure it was him. He was.

Years ago he came to my moms house to buy a jet ski from my brother. My mom took all kinds of pictures only to realize later she didn’t have any film in her camera.

I was young when he was governor. All I remember about him is my grandmother saying he was vulgar and a womanizer. But I’ve also heard he did well for the state. That’s all I have.

father despised Edwards for bringing legalized gambling back to our state.

Then he really hated Buddy Roemer.

Louisiana legalized the lottery, the riverboats and video poker in 1990 and 1991 under then-Gov. Buddy Roemer — and the land casino in New Orleans under then-Gov. Edwin Edwards in 1992.

What was Marion Edwards role in the EWE empire?

Marion was brother Edwin’s front man.
Our company president got an appt. with the governor and the night before, over dinner at Ruth’s Chris, they outlined what the issue was with Marion.
The next day they had about a 2 minute meeting with EWE at which time they were told to basically wiz off ! The issue involved a friend who owned the land our company’s pipeline crossed.

Got a great story. In the 80's, my best friend's girl friend had a part time job at the Shreveport airport. She was 16 years old. Buddy told me Edwards was there and flirting with her. My friend didn't like this very much and said something about it. His body guards were trying to get him away from his girlfriend. Luckily that piece of shite didn't succeed getting a 16 yr old on his private plane.

didn’t some former client of EWE’s brother get an early release and then show up at his office and blow him away?
I was in high school in Crowley when that happened but I don’t remember why he did it.
