quote:While we are discussing Toyota, can someone explain to me why they won’t make a large SUV to compete with the Chevy suburban but have three mid-sized SUVs (4Runner, Land Cruiser, and yes, Sequoia)? Why isn’t the Sequoia bigger? They’d rake in the cash if it was suburban-sized.
That model ain’t 10k. But they are supposed to be releasing a cheap truck in the USA soon.

The chicken tax is also a big reason why we cant have these kinds of nice things.

Quick, what do potato starch, dextrin, brandy, and a smallish pickup truck have in common? The makings of an amazing weekend in Vegas? The contents of Godzilla's stomach after a really weird bender? Close. Those are the things slapped with a 25% tariff known as the Chicken Tax, and it's killing innovation in the truck market.

The auto industry is more regulated and distorted than energy or healthcare. Lift the restrictions and let auto manufacturers make what people want and the cost of trucks would drop 50%.

You perfectly mount a mortar in the bed of that

The cost will go up and reliability down if they have to meet EPA emission requirements for that Diesel engine.
It’s entirely too reliable and cheap in its current form to have here in the states.

I know the emissions stuff pisses off the diesel bros, but we don't talk nearly enough about how severely it's inflated the transportation costs in this country and the EU.

And that's why we can't have it here

I would buy the cheapest 4wd version of that for a farm truck in a hurry.

The Sequoia is not a mid sized SUV

I need one for the hunting camp

You would have gotten more mileage out of kicking Don Tyson in the nuts. Him and his chicken cartel baws were the ones most directly responsible for said Chicken Tax.

This thing is pretty small. Bigger Americans would be uncomfortable

Why can’t we have this is in the US?

Absolutely, but it would be 25k minimum over here
Posted on 2/8/25 at 9:20 am to WildcatMike
When Toyota markets it here, sell under the name Cheap Truck and use the song “I want you to want me” in commercials.

If it has AC, some form of power for electronics (prefer USB but happy with a 12v barrel if it’s all I can get. But at least that), and ideally a radio, I’m good. If the radio has a line in, that’s bonus points. If it’s a standard size that I can put in, that’s great.
No radio? Still yes.

Try and tell me there won't be less accidents if 90% of the public can't afford a car. The government is here to help.

I would pay twice that and take two today.
