Can they not get decent reporters and anchors? Worst lineup I've seen in years.. to be fair, seems most NOLA stations suck a$$ these day except for maybe Fox8

Years ago they were by far the best in the NOLA market. Over the last few years the talent has slipped quite a bit. Not only the anchors & reporters but the technical stuff as well. It's not unusual for an anchor start a story and the video is for another story, or it's simply not ready to play. Years ago, under old station management, that would never happen.

In my opinion Fox8 has the best overall production, with WWL and WDSU in second place. WDSU is not bad, which is an indication of how far WWL has fallen off. And the ABC affiliate is in last place by a mile or more.

The last time I watched a WWL broadcast was on a weekend about 4yrs ago and every news package ended with it being Trump's fault. This happened and isn't a joke.

Was WWL the station owned by the local Catholic church (and thus tax exempt?) (If so they used to have the most money to spend on local programming.)

It was owned by Loyola U. Hence the call letters World Wide Loyola, WWL.

They were owned by Loyola University, which is (was) a Catholic school run by Jesuits. So, not actually owned by the church.

I am not aware of the history of its tax exempt status many decades ago, but the University sold the station in the 1980’s, long before the current decline of the news shows and radio line-up that everyone is talking about.

Station went woke, all the women anchors are fat…

The last few years, I think they told Sheba to be more black… She went through quite a change a while back.

Now currently owned by what's left of Gannet's broadcast division. Gannet is notoriously cheap and basically turned every newspaper they bought over the years into bad clones of USA Today. Most local TV is just warmed over crap owned by a very few massive corporations.

While I get your overall point and it can be very true, go to another state and watch the newscasts. Any of them. I'm not sure why, but the New Orleans area has the best news in the nation as a region. WWL and Fox8 are incredible compared to the national average.

If they could teach chimps to speak and read, they could do an anchor's job. All they do is read what the man behind the curtain puts on the teleprompter, then make some useless banter with their co-anchor between stories.

I remember Meg Gatto kept calling Arkansas the Arizona Razorbacks after LSU played them a couple of years ago.
