“That sucks man. He was a good dude. He was like a miniature Andre. He could move so well in the ring. But everyone in the business respected Bam Bam.”

I first met him in 1989. He was a damn good guy.
Towards the end of his life he was working as a bouncer at the same bar where my nephew bounced. He was already having health issues and was only in his late 30s.
He is another that died at 40.
He damn near died from an overdose while flying to Japan in 93. Wrestled for a few more year after that but was never the same because of permanent brain damage.

Bret did beat up HBK in real life, but it was closer to a sissy slap fight than a beatdown despite Bret being trained by shooters in The Dungeon.
The story repeated by Cornette and others is that it was very brief and that HBK ended up being short a huge hank of hair then trying to take his ball and go home.
And Corny still has the hunk of hair.
They started out in locker room bathroom while Lawler was trying to take a shite.

Best wrestling body of all time along with Kerry Von Erich.
I used to watch Kerry and all the Vom Erichs wrestle in Dallas when I was a kid. Dude was just unreal in how he looked.

Rick was also an accomplished arm wrestler in the 1970s and 1980s.
Which was more of a thing back then.

Terry scared the crap out of me when I was a kid. But he turned out to be a nice guy.
He drank Jack Daniels hard. I’m sure all that drinking led to his death

Gary Hart was just too much of a genius. Fritz and WCCW were tailor made for the small time Suburb audience. He made the Freebird/Von Erich rivalry happen. For just over 3 years, every Saturday night at the Dallas Sportitorium and every Monday in Fort Worth Convention Center, it was 6 man tag/4 man tag/singles using all of the guys in some form or another...along with Gentleman Chris Adams, Gino cocaine Hernandez, Bruiser Brodie, and the Missing Link. Territory blew up with world wide syndication.
Damn good times. I used to go to all the matches and the big Christmas card they would put on.

In that promo, half are dead. Brian Hilldebrand, Buddy Landell, Gordy, and Jimmy Del Ray (mentioned but not pictured). Gibson, Smothers, Tanaka, and Pritchard (not pictured) are still alive. Smothers apparently has cancer and isn’t doing well.

Rude was one of the first "cool" heels. You hated him, but you loved to hate him. He was one of my favorites growing up, mainly because my dad looked alot like him with the short hair version and mustache. (Minus the body of course)

The most amazing part of that is at the start of the video before Jake has said much and you see a little kid sitting in the audience with his mom.

Am I correct that Jake the snake pulled rick rides pants down in a match one time?

Never realized Haku is The Rock’s uncle.

The family tree of Pacific Islander wrestlers is a little twisted.
A lot of the Samoans are directly related and certain other ones like Jimmy Snuka are considered adopted.
IIRC, Rock’s grandfather, High Chief Peter Maivia, is also considered adopted rather than blood.
Less sure about Haku / Meng. He is Tongan and there was a decent sized group of Tongan wrestlers who broke in at that time including Barbarian. I think he is considered adopted too.
