Legend has it Rick Rude just loved kicking arse
He would tell a girl he was hanging with to go flirt with some baw and then beat their arse.
Paul Bearer confirming it

You ever notices how it's always other wrestlers "confirming" these legendary badass exploits?
They were quite aware of the fact that they fed their families by petending to fight other men in the ring, and would go to any measure to protect their brand.

Isn't that why Chuck Liddell used to paint his toenails pink and wear flip-flops to a bar?

In a three year span, Robbinsdale High School in the suburbs of Minneapolis produced Curt “Mr. Perfect” Hennig, “Ravishing” Rick Rude, Tom Zenk, Dean “Battle Kat” Peters, “The Berzerker” John Nord, Nikita Koloff, and Barry Darsow (alternately known as Krusher Kruschev, Demolition Smash, and the Repo Man). That’s not to mention Verne and Greg Gagne and Gene Okerlund, who graduated from the same high school years earlier. Mere miles away, neighboring Cooper High School produced “Mean” Mike Enos and Wayne “Beau Beverley” Bloom around the same time.
Youd have to be tough to be a bully there..

I forget the name of the bar but it was somewhere in Minnesota. All those guys were bouncers. Way to get your arse kicked.

To an extent, I agree. But I also don't see how saying "this dude that I routinely defeat in fake fighting would beat my arse outside the ring" really builds a brand. If they were saying this about Hulk Hogan, I'd get it. That would be trying to embellish the top guy so fans would be more interested in the shows overall and, thus, they'd make more money.

Sorry Mean Gene, I'm coming after you.

Might be Michigan but Darsow (Demolition) Animal and Hawk (LOD) were all bouncers at some bar

Hogan would have gotten his arse kicked IRL.
That's why there are backstage politics. If a guy like hogan was walking around back there constantly cracking skulls, nobody would say shite.
Bret Hart would have beat the frick out if Shawn IRL..and TBH all of them would have had trouble with a healthy kurt angle if he got his hands on you.

Best wrestling body of all time along with Kerry Von Erich.
Warrior and Luger were too stiff.

Warrior hit André once for real and André destroyed him with one shot it’s on camera. I forget what show but it’s bewteen 89-90.

Andre wasn't afraid of anyone but Haku and Harley Race, allegedly. Embellished or not, the lore of Haku is a fun read.

I didn't realize he died at 40.

Heart attack.
quote:
Rude was found unconscious by his wife and died on the morning of April 20, 1999, at the age of 40 when he suffered from heart failure. He was survived by his wife, Michelle, and their three children. An autopsy report showed he died from an overdose of "mixed medications". At the time of his death, Rude was in training for a return to the ring.
A few more tidbits.
quote:
Rood married his wife Michelle in 1988, and the couple remained together until his death in 1999. They had three children together, Richard Jr., Merissa, and Colton. His younger son, Colton, died on September 3, 2016, in a motorcycle accident in Rome, Georgia, at the age of 19.
Bret Hart has stated that Rude was a devoted family man who never took his wedding ring off even during matches but instead covered it up with tape. Hart also stated that Rude, along with Curt Hennig, was one of the greatest technical wrestlers of his era.

Rick was also an accomplished arm wrestler in the 1970s and 1980s.
Which was more of a thing back then.

I believe it. Paul Bearer (who managed him as Percy Pringle in Florida and Texas) backed this story up in shoots. His hot GF would sit at the bar alone and of course guys would hit on her.

Only thing is Rude got schooled backstage by Erik Watts (son of Bill) in amateur wrestling.
