When did the word Thanksgiving become offensive?

everything's offensive these days, some count at work lodged a formal complaint because a check airman referred to her as a co-pilot, which is what her position is, she said she considered it demeaning

Do men not cook the Turkey elsewhere?

Down in S.LA the men always did the turkeys growing up, either frying or smoking or roasting.

It's been around forever. Mostly in cities where the majority of people are transplants from elsewhere. You wouldn't know anything about it in your small towns, because they aren't places people want to move to. It has nothing to do with politics. You have a big Thanksgiving meal with friends that don't go home for the holiday. Been doing it here in Denver forever. Most people (including myself) only go home for either Thanksgiving or Christmas, but not both. Friends that don't go home for either holiday get together to spend it and eat with friends at whoever offers to host at their house any given year.

It's very normal and pretty sad that it offends you that people like to spend the holidays with friends if they aren't spending it with family elsewhere. In transplant cities, friends are the closest thing to family you have locally.

Calling it “thanksgiving” suggests there’s an entity for whom we are thankful for the blessings in our lives?

It's a get together with friends prior to Thanksgiving. We just had one Saturday with a few folks in the neighborhood.

Eh, I went to a "friendsgiving" last year, it was just Thanksgiving with friends NOT on Thanksgiving day. More liquor was involved.

wtf are you melting about, it's just a Thanksgiving style dinner with friends instead of family. We did it a few times in college

It requires having friends - which based on this post you likely have few of - so I understand your confusion

You're overthinking this. It's for friends getting together for Thanksgiving when they can't be with family, but by all means rabble rabble.

Thanksgiving, as in giving Thanks for white ancestors taking the land of the indigenous peoples, killing their men and stealing their women?

Some of y’all get butt hurt over everything.

Friendsgiving = not on Thanksgiving Day, usually not the traditional Thanksgiving meal. Basically an informal party of close friends, the weekend or couple days before Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving = traditional family gathering on Thanksgiving Day

We are doing a barnsgiving this weekend. It’s another excuse to have thanksgiving food and hang out, with the side benefit of no family drama.

I don’t think it’s meant to be political, I think it’s just something people started doing to celebrate with friends they actually like before doing Thanksgiving with their families

Exactly, all of the people that I know who do this live away from their family. So, it's basically just their Thanksgiving celebration, but with their friends rather than their family. It has nothing to do with Politics or Political Correctness. Geez, some people can never turn it off
