Sure, but is it really worth 25 years to life for a 5lb bag of Community Coffee beans?

Waited 10 min for one of the two humans to help me, then 10 more to wait for the laptop they were sharing. After all that 15 for her to show my old arse how I could do that online. Would have been way more helpful if she would have led with the info!

There's one across the street from Capitol One Arena in DC, very close to my office. I haven't actually been inside yet, but it does look like what the commercials claim them to be--a limited-variety coffee shop that will try to sell you a mortgage or get you to apply for a new credit card (as a member of the GrAAvy train [see r/churning], I hope Citi never updates their terrible IT processes).

I switched banks last week because of this. I have need for a bank with a vault and safe deposit boxes and surly clerks, not a Starbucks with an ATM.

There will always be a market for smaller banks providing full service, but fewer people actually need (or, for that matter, WANT) full service banks, so they're going to be increasingly hard to find. shite, if I didn't have a want for secure off-site storage of important documents, I'd still be with one of the megabanks, if only for the size of their ATM networks.

All they want is card business

True. They're closing branches left and right.

As a banking professional this will be the future in the next 5-10 years. Get used to it. Inside human teller jobs will be extinct, except for the drive thru. But, drive thrus will be the next area phased out. Bankers will be more like "financial advisors". Right now there's little need to go to a branch to complete a transaction or minor service issue.

Opposite is true...several Capital One and Chase Branches in my area have ditched the drive thru and went ATM only outside and changed the inside. They have even closed a number of branches almost to the point that they are getting to the bare bones like Sears and Kmart.

They are still popping up though
There's a new Chase being built at Highland and Bluebonnet

It may just be the market.

Houma/Thibodaux lost several branches of Chase and Capital One banks. Local banks have been on a slow up tick on the other hand. I feel sorry for some as they now have to travel across town for a branch that was at a time much closer. I believe next month Capital One is closing the last branch on the East side of Houma. Capital One is also closing the branch in Lockport.

Interesting. Who goes to hang out at a bank?

True though something like that would be nice rather than my bank which has a rather uncomfortable chair I’ve sat in for 30 min to an hour waiting on one of the loan guys to be available

My question is when brick and mortar banks become obsolete how will I deposit my drug money bags of cash that they launder through my ghost LLCs?

The only times I go to the bank are when I have a check that's too large for an app deposit or when I need tipping cash for my all-inclusive Punta Cana vacation.

What’s the goal with this new effort? Is the juice worth the squeeze of renovating existing stores?

Congrats. Very few people actually have to go to a bank, and the ones that do typically cost banks money.

Regions is the same way now. I don't bank there but went to cash a check, since I got burned on a bad one a couple weeks ago. There's a guy standing around and chatting with me as I wait, offering coffee or whatever. There isn't even a real counter anymore.
