It's about time.

How poor and shite arse is Lafayette that they have ZERO miles of 6 lane interstate in or around the city.

Bumfrick Lake Charles has like 25 miles. Even Monroe has a couple of miles.

I-10 being 4 lanes all the way through Lafayette really reflects poorly on the city and its residents.

Yeah, they are literally completely replacing four lanes of interstate, the entire 2-3 foot thick roadway, and building a new 6 lane interstate between I-49 and the Basin, all while not diverting traffic off said interstate.

ETA: I just learned something new. I thought they were 6-laning the whole thing. On the first portion from the Basin bridge to the Henderson exit, only WB will be 3 lanes. EB will still be 2 lanes.

A loop around BR is the only thing money should be going towards right now.

That section of highway needed to be completely cut up and redone. In a rare smart move, they were able to get some federal money to redo the road and add a land at the same time

Well yea. They cant force a 3 to 2 lane bottleneck right at the foot of the Basin bridge. They need at least a few miles for the neck to happen before motorists hit the bridge.

This may come as a shock to you, but there are places other than BR that need fixing.

Plus you know the federal government. the money for this work was Probably allocated to that area and couldn’t be used to something else.

IMO the Basin Bridge needs to be 8 lanes (four each way). But not a conjoined four lanes each way (essentially add an extra 2 each way) that way when the inevitable crash occurs, you still have one portion flowing. add a few cross overs that can be opened to so traffic can cross over in the event of a closure and you're golden.

Now if there's a wreck on both portions. You're just SOL. But the odds of that happening are much lower.

But this is LA. that cluster frick at the Miss. Bridge will never be fixed.

Makes total sense that section was really bad.

Nothing on this planet needs fixing more than BR traffic

In other words, they will create a bottle neck scenario and now traffic will back up before the basin bridge.

That will NEVER happen. The cost aside, you'd never get through the studies and hoops the environmental terrorists demand you jump through these days.

Funding is the reason (If you only have X Million, you construct that much road until you get more funding the next year) coupled with weeping and crying complaining citizens who lose their mind when there is too much construction along a certain road. Go back and look at all the complaints on this board about "How much construction is taking place". When they did Perkins road in Baton rouge 10 years ago, the complaining was ridiculous. People screaming that they needed to do it in stages. Basically, people are big babies who complain constantly - especially when they don't know anything.

No they’re not. The construction goes past La Ave. maybe not all the way to Scott yet, but it doesn’t stop at La. Ave.

I'm assuming you are correct, I couldn't recall from the last time I travelled there. The it's to I-49 (exit 103). I know for a fact it was not originally slated to go to University (101) or Ambassador (100).

Here is an article on the section from Breaux Bridge to the Basin Bridge.

And I just found the article on the widening from BB to I-49

Huge waste Highway dollars. Never a backup in traffic there, so hwy not spend it where it was really needed?

I agree that another lane wasn't needed, but they were already going to rebuild the foundation of the horrible old pavement on I-10. They may as well just add another lane there.

The eventual goal is to widen I-10 between the Basin bridge and Crowley. I think this project will widen it between the bridge and I-49.
