funny. I literally have a friend who has been trying to get a Batman for months.
The phrase "shut up and take my money" doesn't seem to apply to Rolex
It's the Ferrari sales model...
The most idiotic part of it all is the guys who go on the secondary market and pay the 30% over retail when they could have spent the same money and purchased a better watch.

better watch.
At some point there's not a true "value" in what you are spending on a watch. A lot of value to a watch is subjective. If someone prefers the aesthetics of a new Batman GMT and the only way to get one is to pay 18k for it, are they "wrong" for spending their money on that watch rather than a "better" Lange or JLC that they don't really enjoy?

Based on your skin, I’d venture to say you’re the original owner?

To some extent is yes, but complexity of the movement, fit and finish, and rarity are very real things which make for a better watch. One can feel their 1984 Casio TC50 calculator watch is a "better" watch than say an A. Lange & Söhne Langematik Perpetual, but that doesn't make so.
Rolexs are fine timepieces, but they are like De Beers in that they control inventory and create a false shortage. Even still Rolex routinely builds over 1million pieces a year. Many think Rolex is the pinnacle of the watch hierarchy and this is just not true.

Sure, a watch can be objectively better, but do you wear the “best” watch you can afford. Or do you wear the watch that you like the most? I wear a watch because of the way that it makes me feel, not because of some objective measure. You can’t really apply logic to this hobby (or whatever you want to call it), because it’s not a very logical endeavor

That's why you don't shave you arms. I didn't even notice a watch. Just some bitch stubble on your arm and hand.

This is true. Several brands offer better movements and finishes. Rolex for the most part are solid watches that provided you service them will outlive the owner. I like the history of Rolex and it’s one reason I collect them. There are plenty of great watch brands out there today both more expensive and less expensive than Rolex. Nobody ‘needs’ a watch in 2023.
