Better yet, just tie them up outside a VA and let the VA take care of them.

non profits are rich folks play toys

I absolutely love diving into the tax returns of 501c3's. Most are a hustle and the ones that really need support and do great things in their communities never have the excess dollars to do branding and fundraising campaigns.

In Northwest Arkansas non profits for the most part are things to occupy the time of the wives and daughters of our Fortune 500 executives and their house mates from college.

Same here. Most of the money goes to "administrative cost". If you want to help a person do it directly.

ide note on St. Jude's. I do donate there often but they need to save some cash on all the mailings that they do. You are either going to donate or not. A 10 dollar mailing packet won't make me do more. Save the cash.

Yeah and it's not just St Jude's. I donated $10 about 8 years ago to a civil war battlefield preservation group and I still get a thick envelope monthly. I only donated in the first place Bc I wanted the gift hat that came with it.

They should be forced to spend 3 weeks at a time in every VA hospital across the country until they've worked off the money they've pilfered.

The United Way was corrupt to the core and the company I was working for at the time coerced all of the employees to have the money auto-drafted from our pay checks. I refused but gave some cash and was brow-beaten by my manager. It came out in the 90's that the UW CEO had lavish homes all over the country and his own private jet.

The Disabled American Veterans has millions of members and is 100 years old. The DAV has NEVER had any scandal of this sort.

That's why I support the DAV, and I hope you will, too.

The organization is not BS. Some corrupt employees misappropriated funds. They are gone.

It was the CEO and COO, not just two rank and file employees.

Even worse. The Wounded Warrior Project never used funds to sue other veterans charities.

Local charities are generally a better bet. Catholic organizations are good if you want something with a broader geographic scope. They usually have very low overhead.

Let me be clear that I don't condone spending $26 million in travel/entertainment for executives for a non-profit. But these national charities, and even some large regional ones spend a lot of money to attract top talent in order to raise top talent.

I've spent some time working with organizations that fund-raise and you can tell the ones that understand the need to invest in the talent & infrastructure to bring in more for the charity.

St. Jude's here too. Monthly direct debits. Has to be best charity out there, but also agree that they can save money on the mailings to me, I already give.

https://woundedwarheroes.org

This local organization was started by the family member of a TD poster. All donations go to vets. All time is volunteered.

Pretty much any government employee based charity is a Scam. Cops and military are the worst ones. Donate to children's or animals.

I find some of the responses here odd inasmuch as the critics would probably be fine with a for profit or any other business treating the employees to an expensive outing. Why should WW operate differently from any other business? When businesses do well its acceptable if not expected that they give perks. If the officers of a large corporation have a golf weekend at Doral, no one cares. Why should a successful charity take a vow of poverty if it chooses not to?
