We can easily see where that slippery slope leads by taking a look at what the CCP is doing in China. They already have this in place and it's exactly used how you'd expect.

You really have to ask? I'm not even sure where to begin. I guess I'll start with the fact that facial recognition is easy to defeat by simply wearing a mask (or large sunglasses or large brimmed hat or on and on), so if it becomes widespread then masked criminals will become more common and then neither the cameras nor the victims will be able to identify them. Then eventually covering all or part of your face makes you suspicious.

And it's just nobody's business where I go or what I do, especially not the fricking government's business, and it's far too tempting to cast a wide net and people end up guilty by association or hassled for no reason.

It's also far too tempting to go the route of China and identify and track people of certain ethnicities. You can say it won't happen all you want, but it's happening in other countries at this moment and it could most definitely happen here.

In short, it would only be effective for its stated purpose until it becomes known that it is in use, after which point all it will do is be a way for taxpayers to pay to spy on themselves.

No thanks.

We need cameras like in Demolition Man that can zoom in on any city street location so we can catch criminals.

One of the efforts NOLA was pioneering to reduce crime.

Really worked. Stopped it a couple of years ago. Results aren't in yet if the system was beneficial or racist.

Good point. They're already doing this to keep tabs on the Uyghur population in Xinjiang. Makes it easy to haul them to concentration...oh I'm sorry "re-education" camps.

Before March 2020, what you would have thought about someone covering their face in public in the USA?

And don't go the religious route.

I hope you’re joking.

Everyone who supports totalitarian resources for law enforcement always thinks it’s the other guys who are the criminals.

Yet the Left, who have been winning elections across the country even in traditionally red states, believe that using the wrong pronoun is literally a violent, physical assault on someone.

No thanks.

They have been doing it for many years and people haven’t known anything. You can’t drive on the interstate or any major highway without passing many license plate readers.

Because I have zero trust for anyone working in high levels of government.

No but that's where we are all headed.

Dominant global culture wants to have complete control over EVERY aspect of our existence and that would be one of many resources at their hand.
