You did right. Either the restaurant was understaffed or the waiter sucked or noth.
The only way to fix that is to hit em qhere it hurts.

Stiff? No, but I might not tip as good as I normally would.

I worked for tips. If someone is a shitty server and they're obvious not busy/overwhelmed, they're not getting a tip.

The worst time was at the IHOP on College Drive, when I gave a 10% tip and the waitress started crying loud as could be (weeping like a baby) as she was running the card.

Damn. How big a breakfast did you have that her losing out on another 10% or so made her cry?

Absolutely I would and have stiffed a server who gave me terrible service but yet good food. The food and the service are two different parts of the dining experience. If said place doesn't automatically add a gratuity to the bill then I tip according to the service I was given.

FYI: Please lift the ban on Rouge his comments are sorely needed in this thread.

Was recently at a restaurant in NOLA that I’ve been to a few times. This particular night, the male server was horrible and had a bad attitude (he was pissy with everyone).

At the end of the meal, after asking for the check multiple times, I asked the waiter for the manager. In front of the waiter, I drew a big Zero on the tip line and handed the manager a 15% tip and told him to make sure the staff shared the tip and not to give a dime to the waiter.

Both of them apologized and I told the waiter he didn’t belong in the service industry.

She came back but gave me only bills, and no actually change.

I used to do this. So if the person was supposed to get back $8.31, I’d just give back $9. I hated keeping loose coins in my pockets for change.

Of course I would tip low for poor service. Why wouldn't anyone? That's subsidizing unsatisfactory job performance.

I have had a waitress follow me out of a NOLA restaurant. Service was awful and she had an attitude. I told her if she would have put as much effort in her service as she did following me out she would have gotten a decent tip.

Most of the time at my regular places I get the same waitress's or waiters and they know they will receive a good tip.

there have been heated arguments amongst the wait staff at places where I was a regular because someone “stole their customer”.

One time, I overheard one of my regular servers say something to the new girl about it. The new girl said something along the lines of- “tough shite, that’s my dad.”
