Your name becomes known for generations of people who otherwise would have never heard of you, but it is for something negative.

Not me, I'd rather be forgotten.

If it’s a thanos type achievement where certain individuals truly understand my brilliance and charity, sure.

Let's not forget that had VERY few things gone a little differently, he'd be considered a national hero unlike that traitorous Washington, and we'd all still be having afternoon tea and carrying around Pounds with the Queen's face on them.
Fate is a fickle mistress and Arnold didn't know whether he was signing up to be a hero or a traitor.

Why the frick do I care if people know my name?

No, he knew he was a traitor. He wasn't respected by the Brits either after he switched sides. That's the thing about being a traitor. Even the side that you help can't really trust you because if you switched once, you can switch again.

Yeah, but being on the winning side has a way of whitewashing negative perceptions and making history kinder to you than it otherwise would be.

Benedict Arnold was in the right, but because the rebel terrorists won his name has been slandered for centuries now. Very sad story.

Wasn't Washington the traitor?

I like the nameless monuments that he has in this country.
His plaque at West Point:
The monument to his injured foot at Saratoga:

No. I genuinely abhor both being disliked and being the center of attention. Being forgotten/unmemorable doesn’t bother me.
