My typical day was...
Go to school.
Go to football practice.
Go play basketball down the road.
Eat supper.
Do homework.
Shower.
Bed.

In summer, it would be...
Running through the woods or riding bikes.
Inside for lunch.
Baseball practice.
Basketball, football, hide and go seek, or more time in the woods.
Supper.
Shower, unless there was pool time. Kids are gross.
Bed.

I spend less time outside in the summer, particularly after 10am. The rest of the year I'm probably outside more than inside during the day.

When I lived up north in Wisconsin the opposite was true for me, but now in Texas I absolutely love that first crisp day in the fall when the humidity finally relents. Winter and Spring are actually decent seasons compared with Wisconsin.

I was a kid in the mid 80s and to be honest, if I had all the things my kids have, I probably would have stayed inside too. We had very few toys, a TV with 3 channels, no gaming systems, computers, etc. It was boring so we had to go outside.

Video games, internet, social media are all basically addictive drugs that stimulate the same brain areas that drugs do. Remember those MTV videos that flipped footage so fast it made your head spin? What scares me the most is where are the kids that used to ride bikes around the 'hood? I see no one. Hell drugs might be cheaper than some of the media out now.

We lived at the ball parks, much more fun than video games.

In poor Mexican neighborhoods you will still see kids riding their bikes while their dads hang outside in the front yard drinking beers and watching them.

In rich white neighborhoods kids will routinely be found biking/skateboarding around as well.

Seems like it’s the demographics in between that stay inside all day.

My Dad told my brother and I stories about hanging out with the neighborhood kids, hanging out and playing basketball outside until it got dark out. Hell, I even remember sometimes as a kid running around outside playing sports with my friends. My little cousins nowadays it seems just sit inside staring at screens.

Nowadays, I feel like almost everyone just sits inside, on their technology/social media. And then we wonder why America is has an obesity problem.

I try to make it a point to exercise outside every day, walk outside when I can, even just sitting outside to get some work done or read. Sure, I'm not focused on the outdoors then, but it's sometimes nice get some fresh air, people watch, and get out of the artificial light.

I find your demographic data to be suspect.

My grandkids were over today along with a niece and her friend, ages 9,9,7,5,2. They were outside non-stop. Because of the 5 year old and 2 year old, we had to be outside watching them. My nephew and I were trying to entice them inside so we could get into the air conditioning and they were having none of it.

>Video games and TV are incredibly addicting and stimulating.

Video game may stimulate reflexes

TV is not stimulating. Supposedly you use less of your brain watching TV than you do sleeping

Kids still play outside a lot where I live and I’m in a middle class neighborhood.

Just because it seems that way through your scope doesn’t mean it’s true for all.
