Would you say America is almost exclusively an inside culture today?

Growing up, like everyone my age, you quite literally had to drag us inside the house as all the fun was outside, but today it is obviously the absolute opposite for kids, but for adults too, even the very same I grew up with.
I have my own theories on how this has turned a bunch of people into weird anti social introverts, and caused people to forget how to socialize, caused anger and not being able to get along with others, lashing out rather than getting along, and all other kinds of socializing problems. After all, we know that it’s very important to socialize your dogs to avoid aggression and bad behavior, so why would it be different with human beings?
Besides all that, which is a lot, I’d also say there’s a lot of health issues associated with not being in the sun, getting exercise, and just making life pretty boring because of everyone being inside and that causing life to be pretty humdrum and eventless, and hey, summer was hot when we were growing up just as it is hot today.
What say you? How does anyone really benefit from America’s inside culture we’ve created for ourselves?

I think most of my neighbors thought I was the yard guy the first 6 months in a new home. Some still do apparently
I like being outside

Really depends on where you live, I was outside for most of the day in our pool but if we didn’t have one then we would have been inside the house all day.

This stuff have been scientifically proven and you're just now coming up with your theories?

It’s so fricking hot. My kids don’t get to have a summer outside.

My kids range in age from 12-24, they all played or still play outside as did their friends

Look at that “travel ball” thread. A lot of kids are still doing things outside. It’s just all become so hyper organized and coordinated.
It’s not your idealistic vision, sure. But it’s not ALL just sitting around inside looking at screens.

The internet and social media has kissed those days goodbye.

I spend less time outside in the summer, particularly after 10am. The rest of the year I'm probably outside more than inside during the day.

It is definitely predominantly an inside childhood now.
Not my kids - especially my sons but most people allow gaming systems to babysit their children.
My kids are still outside more than in when the weather allows. My youngest son would rather grab a fishing rod or baseball glove than a game controller.
Our favorite vacation spot is in the mountain back country in my 18x24 wall tent. Away from cell signals.

It's not just the kids. Adults pay people to mow their lawn and run their errands and then get on Nextdoor and complain about the strange vehicle in their neighbor's driveway.

How about summer jobs? Kids don’t cut yards anymore, even their own. Thanks, joe

Idk about that. Tried to get a last minute tee time in my area this weekend and everywhere was booked until like 11 am (when it would be hot). Went to the driving range and it was nearly full. Lots of people were outside.

Video games and TV are incredibly addicting and stimulating. Plus kids are generally further removed from friends now. Not as many kids on the block as there used to be

The adults are more ridiculous than the kids.
